Exciting Life Update! I’m ecstatic to announce that I’ve joined
@11alive
as the weekend morning meteorologist! Atlanta is my home town, and it’s always been a dream of mine to forecast for the city I love.

To be a meteorologist, my college education included several levels of Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, Matlab coding language & numerous meteorology and atmospheric science courses. Female meteorologists aren’t “weather ladies”. We are scientists. I am

I'm still amazed by how rude some Twitter folks can be. Nastier than storms.
Happy Monday, everyone. Be positive! Be kind! Treat others the way you want to be treated.
I’m a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist & always let my geek flag fly. If I could, I’d come to work every day in a nerdy t-shirt. I’d rather teach weather to a room of eager-to-learn 12 year olds then respond to a single message about how I look in a dress. I’m

Happy Thanksgiving! Meet my newest thanksgiving blessing, our ‘weather baby’. She’s going to be a future woman of science! Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy holiday weekend! I’ll be back on tv soon.
Why is
#morethanababe
trending? It’s a movement of solidarity, standing with fellow meteorologists and journalists in Arkansas where a local radio station is refusing to stop their annual “babe bracket”, ranking these women solely based on looks.
Honored to win the Chesapeake AP Award for best Meteorologist/Weathercaster in large tv markets for 2018! Big night for
@wusa9
team! Congrats to all winners and your accomplishments in journalism and communication.
Saharan dust plume -- incoming! The added dust (usually high in the atmosphere) can lead to more vivid sunrises/sunsets. The dust can also act as cloud nuclei and aid in cloud formation.

Before leaving DC — look who I got to see!
@TenaciousTopper
and Peaches,
@hbwx
and Ahsoka, and
@LarryMillerTV
! Social Distanced Goodbyes with just a few of my former colleagues
Buckle up, DC. There are 3 more winter storm systems possible in the next week... and they arrive in a span of 4 days. I wish I were kidding. Snow lovers, this may be your favorite week of winter.

Who remembers this over-achieving snow event from 4 years ago? Dec 8-9th, 2017. Atlanta picked up 2.3", NW suburbs got 6-12", and Mountain City in NE GA picked up a foot and a half! Photos courtesy NWS Peachtree City
Help us welcome
@MelissaNordWx
to the 11Alive StormTrackers! She filled in this Fall while pregnant and has a brand new baby girl. Melissa joins us full time. Melissa is an Atlanta native and graduated from
@GeorgiaTech
. Check her out filling in for
@chesley11alive
this week!
Today I finally get the chance to work with fellow former DC area meteorologist
@JacquiJerasTV
! Our time in DC briefly overlapped a few years back when she was at
@ABC7News
and I was new to

A belated happy 20 year anniversary at
@wusa9
to my friend and former colleague
@HBwx
! I hope this winter proves to be better for snow for you than last year! This photos was taken during one of those disappointing storms last year when DC ended up with next to nothing
March 14th (3/14) is Pi Day — and I’ll be joining women around the country wearing purple to encourage more women to enter STEM fields.
Join me and wear purple tomorrow!

Pi Day was my 3rd Anniversary in DC at
@wusa9
! Thank you for your support and for allowing me to “Geek Out” and share science with you!
Here’s to many more memories in DC!
Quite an amazing sunrise this morning over DC. Look at the 2nd and 3rd photos -- you'll see a vertical bright streak of light called a 'sun pillar', which occurs when sunlight reflects off the surface of ice crystals in the sky.

Back in DC after traveling to the Middle East for the past 10 days. Can’t wait to share with you all about my travel experience throughout the week on Facebook/Instagram.
I’m back on
@wusa9
at Noon today
Day 5 at home: I’ve always wanted to see
@HamiltonMusical
, but it was always too $$$ in DC. Wouldn’t it be cool if they released a tv version of it (and other broadway shows) for free on tv or as a rental on demand for a low price that goes to a fund for actors out of work?
If you just had 40" of snow, what's another 1"-3"? Two quick shots of snow for the Northeast through Tuesday will bring a little more snow to the area!

I’ve been off the grid for the last 10 days sailing around the USVIs and BVIs. Here are 2 of my favorite weather photos from the trip. The islands were hit very hard from Irma, and later Maria in 2017. There are still some islands with houses damaged/destroyed nearly 3 yrs later.
UPDATED SNOW MAP | I think the axis of heaviest snow will creep into the south side of the metro, so I've raised totals near I-66. One area of concern is mixing in Southern MD & northern neck. If Rain/snow line creeps further north, snow will underperform.

Snow *could* be in the cards this weekend for parts of the DC area -- but it's not locked-in yet! On
@wusa9
news at noon, I'm running through the latest model info & what that could mean for your weekend plans.

A parade of decorated cars, honking through the neighborhood. These are teachers. Asking kids to read, do their homework, and stay happy and healthy. The kids down the street were so excited, jumping up and clapping. It brought tears to my eyes. It’s a little hope and happiness.
