The entire Commonwealth of Virginia is under a Winter Storm Watch this weekend. Heavy snow changing to ice is likely. Here’s an early look at snowfall totals through Sun AM. Totals near a foot likely across northern Virginia. Power outages/hazardous travel biggest concerns.

🚨 HEADS UP VIRGINIA 🚨 There’s potential for a major winter storm across the commonwealth this upcoming weekend (January 24 and 25), along with bitter cold. Models are showing the chance of at least 3 inches of snow is higher than 50%! That is a serious signal. Stay tuned!

Snowfall has been above-average for 25 percent of the country so far this season, including a densely populated stretch of the Midwest, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Here's approximate season-to-date snowfall as a percentage of average for selected locations: Louisville, Ky., 490

The upward trend continues with snow totals and 3-6" is now expected for portions of central & eastern VA. Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for portions of the Piedmont & Richmond metro/Tri-Cities. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect elsewhere, except the MD East. Shore.

UPDATED FORECAST TOTALS

Another round of snow for Virginia on Monday! ❄️ A swath of 1-3” expected for most along and south of I-64. Isolated pockets of 4”+ cannot be ruled out from Richmond and points south and also in the Roanoke area.

More snow possible across parts of Virginia on Monday. Stay tuned. ❄️

Freezing fog is still possible across the area tonight, particularly for central and eastern Virginia away from the immediate coast. Should freezing fog occur, a light glaze of ice could form on elevated surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for a good portion of Virginia where 1-2 inches of snow will fall late tonight through Friday morning. Isolated pockets of 3-4"+ are possible. Below freezing temperatures will allow roads to become snow covered, especially untreated.

FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON FOR MANY ❄️ Snow chance increasing across the commonwealth on Friday with at least 1 inch of snow falling in many areas. Stay tuned.
