So many stories of my great-great grandfather. I often wonder what the old man would think of us/the world today.

I would urge Canadians to consider some kind of observation. Be mournful on Remembrance Day, wave the flag on Canada Day, and reflect on TR day. There are people who want to politicize all three of those, but I've never had trouble ignoring them.

New CIRNA Minister @gary_srp is no stranger to the #FirstNations file, having sat on the Indigenous & Northern Affairs Committee for six years. He knows the government's #reconciliation agenda & is well regarded by many #Indigenous leaders already. #CabinetShuffle #cdnpoli

🗣️ANNO: Joanna Bernard selected as interim National Chief by @AFN_Updates. She'll need to work with government on its legislative agenda for #FirstNations police services, co-developing Indigenous health legislation, and safe drinking water and wastewater infrastructure. #cdnpoli

As someone who works closely with elders, ppl really need to rethink how to include them meaningfully. I once drove 40 minutes to pick up an elder, another 40 to take him to the event where they asked him to pray and welcome people- then said “thx you can go now!” He was so tired.

In former PM Ardern's final speech to NZ Parliament she talks about: • Establishing an Indigenous Health Authority • Investing in the Māori Language • Creating the Department of #Indigenous-Crown Relations (following 🇨🇦's lead) It's certainly worth a watch. #cdnpoli

Support for an #Indigenous Housing Strategy, which was in #Budget2023, gets 66% (!!!) support from Canadians. Choosing to see moments like this as progress for those working to educate Canadians on #reconciliation - it is bearing fruit. #cdnpoli

If you think residential schools were a great place for children, you need to look at the Indigenous stats for: - Incarcerations - Addictions - Education - Child & Family - Homelessness If residential schools were a place for learning, we'd have high rates of educated,

It may surprise some, but there is no question @JustinTrudeau has made investing in Indigenous priorities one of the single largest things the Govt of Canada has done since 2015. Not to say there is not more to do — or that we have come to close to resolve harm & need. #cdnpoli

Indigenous reconciliation, like climate change, is an issue where Trudeau has gone so much further than the public demand, or even appetite, that his commitment should not be questioned

Something missed in #Budget23 coverage was investments in economic #reconciliation. #Indigenous peoples have been subject to poverty-on-purpose policies for hundreds of years. Here’s a few thoughts alongside very smart people: #cdnpoli #skpoli https://t.co/gTHb0uqQLk

From our analysis, #Budget23 reflects a return to pre-pandemic #Indigenous spending. Highlights: • $4B over 7 years to build Indigenous housing • $125M over 5 years for advancing MMIWG2S+ Calls to Justice • $2B over 10 years for culturally responsive health care #cdnpoli
