Steve Wright was the voice of Reading’s 210. He spoke to us as kid Journos at BBC Local Radio. He was unfailingly kind and generous to me whenever we met. A generational talent. Smart, funny, warm. He cared. I’m so sad today.
New. The 50 best and worst travel firms ranked for refunds. Big ones at the bottom incl Ryanair & TUI, at the top Hays & Jet2 holidays. See how yours fared (& get refund help)...
Don’t ever get fobbed off onto the manufacturer if your white goods go wrong. It’s the retailer’s job to put it right - regardless of warranty, guarantee or company policy. It’s the law.
So. To be clear. No company policy or membership scheme guidance can take away your rights in law.
You don’t have to accept a voucher or credit note in exchange for your holiday or flight. And right now I wouldn’t.
One of the reasons the travel refund matters: at a time when we are being asked to obey laws old and new, it’s important to show that the same is expected of businesses. Otherwise respect for the law breaks down.

So I won’t be gracing

sofa tonight. High temperature, achy limbs, Headache and a cough as of this morning. Glad to say my mum will be on (film) though! She is indestructible. Hope to be back after

#Covid19
#coronavirus
Bloody depressing
@thismorning
phone-in again. So many people at crisis point regarding energy bills - including those with v high usage due to disabilities (home ventilators, oxygen concentrators, elec wheel chairs etc).
I am nearly OUT OF TOOLS to help
Govt must intervene
I was born and grew up in
#reading
. I did more growing up in the
#forburygardens
than anywhere else. It’s where we hung out after school, where I had my lunch when I temped at the Pru. It will always be a place I associate with peace, calm and happiness.
I am so sorry today.
….two weeks ago we broke the fact that holiday vouchers and credit notes aren’t yet protected by
#atol
, and therefore the government. A fortnight on nothing’s changed. Why? Some airlines and tour companies offered refunds and then changed their minds…..
Totally unprovoked physical and verbal attack on a colleague today. Because he works for the BBC. That’s it. While we were filming a piece helping people deal with the cost of living crisis.
An incredible and surreal moment I’ll never forget. Over a million pounds raised for

you are a hero! A big thank you to everyone who has donated. It’s still not too late to donate 🙏🏽

tomorrow at the new time of 0930 for an extra half an hour. Chatting about energy bill changes with

and the rest of the team. It’s important you join us. Not for my sake, for Geth. He’s unbearable when you don’t watch.
I started in BBC local radio. I’m proud of that fact. These stations make a huge difference to peoples lives. This is going to a massive loss. We will lose some of the most talented and hard-working people in the business.
Tomorrow isn’t going to be fun. BBC Local radio is like a family to those who work there and to those who listen. A place you can turn to at times of need and news - locally and nationally - and a place to escape to. Just look at the last few years. Awful.
I am very happy to say that I’ll be presenting a new series -
Your Money and Your Life
- with the wonderful
@msm4rsh
every morning from June 15th on BBC1.
Money,
Family,
Jobs,
Housing,
Education.
If it matters to you, it matters to us.
Get in touch!

And we’re ready to kick off the brand new consumer series
@BBCMoneyLife
tomorrow!
@msm4rsh
and me on your tellies at 10 every day.

Tell us what’s twisting your melon and we will get answers!
When I was 13 I wrote to
#BoonGould
to ask him how he got his guitar sound. He sent me a four page letter with diagrams. It had a huge effect. What an artist. What a gentleman.
Hey
@Tesco
! I don’t need my
#clubcard
points. Can you give me a way to donate them to
@TrussellTrust
please? I’m unlikely to drop things in baskets right now and they can choose what people really need better than me. TA!!!
@BBCWatchdog
I’m looking forward to this series of
@BBCWatchdog
so much. Back on Wednesday with my main mojitos
@stephbreakfast
and
@FoxNikkiFox
with a batch of the best stories in years. BBC 1 8pm. BE THERE!!!
If you don’t appreciate the BBC after the last couple of weeks, then there is no hope for you.
Worth every penny. Extraordinary effort.
Shout out to my colleagues in BBC local radio. X
If Henry Cooper, Jackie Stewart & Stirling Moss all got knighthoods, can someone explain why
@LennoxLewis
&
@LewisHamilton
haven't?
Greatest British boxer & driver in history & arguably the greatest the world's ever produced.
Arise Sir Lennox & Sir Lewis!
The absolute genius of this. A home school uniform that gets your kids in the zone, is a keepsake of this time, and raises money for those whose home schools aren’t up to much.

Prankster plumber 'chased' down street in fake Rogue Traders episode | Daily Mail Online literally not news. So good they included Pete’s age. Crucial.
Here’s the bit:
‘Consumers can normally be offered credits, vouchers, re-booking or re- scheduling as an alternative to a refund, but they should not be misled or pressured into doing so, and a refund should still be an option that is just as clearly and easily available.’
Are your property managers trying to increase your service charge? Unsure what to do?
On tomorrow's show, Matt Allwright will be here talking about your rights when it comes to paying service charges on leasehold properties.

Btw, papers will only print vile shit if they get clicks. If you read it, you’re complicit. Even if the Sidebar of Shame is just your ‘guilty pleasure’
When travel companies feel that they can break or dodge the law as blatantly as they are right now, it’s time for government to step in. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Dom Busby was one of my first colleagues at the BBC. I used to be so pleased to find out that our shifts matched because it meant the day would just be better, funnier, smarter.
He was an absolute diamond of a man and I will miss him terribly.
#MrBatesVsThePostOffice
is absolutely heartbreaking. It had me in tears throughout. What a great piece of work. What a terrible thing.
And it’s not over yet.
Thank you for so many lovely messages. Temperature is down to 37.5. Bit achy is all. Much better. Can’t imagine this is
#covid19
from what I’ve read. X
I just walked up
#kinderscout
. Met a lovely fella who makes furniture. We talked punk, Orwell, birch ply, Eames, Americana, the quiet but persistent nature of British non-conformism.
It was in many ways a perfect morning and I can’t believe my luck.
OK. We're looking good for
@BBCWatchdog
on
@BBCTheOneShow
tomorrow.
@FoxNikkiFox
has made an awesome film about internet struggles right now and I'm talking flight refunds and staying safe on zoom etc
See you there! Mx
Do you feel like you’re
providing credit for an company right now? Money you handed over for goods or services which can’t be provided because of

teams are our super power. They owe nothing to anyone, work longer and harder than anyone can imagine, and provide a vital service to their communities against the backdrop of cuts and more cuts.
They’ve deserved today for a very long time.
To all the shopkeeps who have had it so tough over the last year: good luck tomorrow. Big love in particular to
@balconyshirts
. Seeing them pivot through this thing has been incredible. X
