1/5 3 years ago, thanks to @EconTalker and @Doug_Lemov, I made the best parenting decision of my life: I started reading out loud for 45-60 minutes per night with my kids. We just finished our 48th book together. Here is why this has been so valuable ๐งต:

75 years ago, 1 out of every 5 dollars a US family earned went to food. Today that's closer to 1 in 10. A slow, steady, easy-to-miss kind of progress.

Deforestation is no longer inevitableโ In the past, forests around the world were cut down on a massive scale. We lost some of the worldโs richest ecosystems. In recent decades, the picture has become more complex. Deforestation has not ended, but it is no longer happening

The boys and I have now finished 79 books together. The 15 year old has grown weary of this daily routine (understandable at his age), so the 13 year old and I are moving on without him! Making reading together a priority has been one of best decisions Iโve made as a father.

Elite education is free. Internet is $15/month. So what's the real problem? Elite universities put their best courses online for free Internet costs less than a Netflix subscription Smartphones are everywhere Yet people keep saying "they don't have access to education" Jason

youโd think people who are routinely terrified of certain outcomes in presidential elections would be the strongest advocates for limiting executive power. youโd think.

New York could do this. But then all the rich people living in rent-controlled housing would have to pay more. Average rents down, but elite rents up. Why would a system based on power protect the weak? (Answer: it wouldn't. And THAT is why we have rent-controls!)
Milei repeals rent controls in Argentina. The results in Buenos Aires since last October: - housing rental supply up 170% - rents down 40%

Trump: Harris wants "to impose communist-inspired price controls which have never worked.โ Trump 10 minutes later: "Weโre going to put a temporary [10%] cap on credit card interest rates." ๐: https://t.co/aWX8JES02s

I don't want to go off half cocked but if MAGAs in Ohio are claiming cats being taken and eaten and the police in Ohio are saying no one is taking cats and eating them, then it seems pretty clear that the Ohio police must be the ones taking and eating the cats.

Hard to believe itโs been 7 years since Josh left us. Grateful for this annual tradition of reconnecting with these young men, sharing stories, catching up, and remembering Josh and what he meant to each of us.
