It is possible for Labour to be ahead of the curve on the issue of identity rather than constantly battling against culture wars. But only if it is attentive to resentments at large in society, and dares to direct rather than diffuse them. My piece for @FT.

Mamdani's charisma and communications are impressive but it is his policy programme that is fizzing with ideas and gives him novelty. Short piece from me for LBC (I don't pick the headline).

The danger for centre-left parties everywhere is they are perceived to be defending a failing status quo, as Cuomo was. Mamdani articulated a clear alternative - and New York elected its first socialist Mayor. "Daring to dream" is at a premium in a time of upheaval.

Every politician says New York is the greatest city in the world. But what good is that if no one can afford to live here?. I'm running for Mayor to lower the cost of living for working class New Yorkers. Join the fight.
