I’m part of the 2% of people that agree with the pure maths chat. If you can do it, then go for it. It gives you a lot more career options to consider. However, this only works if you can pass Maths. Forcing children that aren’t doing well in it to continue with it is mad.

If you KNOW what you want to study in varsity, you can do without pure maths but how many 16-18 year olds definitively know which career they want to branch into for the next 40 years? Best bet if possible, have pure maths in your back pocket, pivoting careers is easier that way.
