Spox. 👣 & 🔱 alum. “Abortion Queen.” Horror addict. Blocks liberally, but NOT a Liberal. My opinions.
Ahem.
Having an abortion because you don’t want to be pregnant is as valid as having an abortion because something went wrong during your wanted pregnancy.
Carry on.
So, Black Twitter is finally asking “Is Kari Lake passing,” but Black Arizonans been knew. We just kept in on the group chats because none of us wanted to claim her.
More and more, I’m realizing the “it’s pro-choice, not pro-abortion” people aren not on our side. We aren’t even in the same stratosphere. It’s giving “back in my day, women knew how to be ashamed of sex.”
I'm reading that the home was built to be a replica of a plantation, which is worse if you ask me. It reeks of diet racism. Get the look of slavery without the guilt. No thank you.
Watching and listening to folks urge Ukrainians to “rise up” and take up arms against a government trying to kill them less than 2 years after the same folks urged Black Americans to be peaceful and turn the other cheek against a government trying to kill us is a whole trigger.
@Tia_Oso
I’m just saying she looks like her family told her her great-great grandma was a Cherokee princess and that’s where the family got their high cheekbones. 🤷🏾♀️
And it’s absolutely ok if you had an abortion at at Planned Parenthood clinic. Abortion IS healthcare, just like the other services listed. Excluding abortion further stigmatizes it. I know folks mean well, but let’s all work more thoughtfully to destigmatize abortion.
For anyone who wants to justify this bullshit, read the article. Then use your Google fingers to see that Greek Revival Architecture was "revived" and popularized in the antebellum south. PLANTATIONS IN THE SOUTH WERE GREEK REVIVAL STYLE.
@MrLawson
Brought to you by a woman who probably doesn’t wash her legs and a man who doesn’t wash his ass. The stink they smell isn’t “the poors.” They’re getting a whiff of themselves. 🤦🏾♀️
White Feminism: This is a fight AGAINST the control of women’s bodies.
Reproductive Justice: This is a fight FOR everyone’s bodily autonomy and freedom to raise families in health and safety, which is ultimately a fight AGAINST white supremacy.
RJ meets the moment.
They often refuse to see that trans and GNC folks can become pregnant because “that’s the minority,” but amplify the most rare abortion horror stories as the reason why we need abortion, all while stating that “no one really wants an abortion.”
This is NOT a mic drop. It uses gendered language, relies on the false narrative that abortion is “difficult,” and fails to use the word ABORTION. We can do better than this. We MUST do better than this.
"I know you've never faced those choices, nor have you ever been pregnant, but for women out there who have faced those choices, this is an incredibly difficult thing."
— Jen Psaki shuts down a male reporter who asks why Pres. Biden supports abortion against his Catholic faith.
The Board of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona voted unanimously to ask our endorsed candidates to return any campaign contributions from police unions and other policing organizations because: 1/
Liz Cheney defended birthers because she’s racist and xenophobic. She sponsored a bill to “defund Planned Parenthood” because she’s an anti. She opposed gay marriage, despite her lesbian sister, because she’s a homophobe.
Seeing Dems sad about her loss is a whole gaslight. STOP!
Y'all know that I count Kyrsten as a friend and because of that, I don't often call her out publicly, though she's aware of my opinions. Today, I'm moved to say after reading this that she's dead wrong.
They talk about how they marched for Roe, but leave out the part where they tapped out well before racialized and poor women could get meaningful access to abortions.
So, I need to be clear that the abortion ban, trans bans, and voting rights bills just signed by Ducey are all related. We should be furious about ALL OF THEM. This is why we have to work in coalitions instead of silos. ALL OF THESE LANES ARE OURS!
We need all hands in this fight for sure, but WE ARE BUILT DIFFERENT. And the folks who took their rights 50 years ago and left the rest of us behind should not be leading.
And that’s that on that.
They jump into my mentions to tell me *I’m* not doing enough and that calling myself pro-abortion is why we’re here. Cuz yeah. I’m single-handed my responsible for SCOTUS.
Hey AZ! Your governor is giving a speech denouncing remote learning . . . let me check this . . . remotely. I know Republicans don't get irony, but damn!
@tonysnow_jr
She was our local news anchor for like 25 years. The first time I saw her, I peeped it. I know why it didn’t become a campaign issue, but it would’ve made things more interesting…for me. 🤣
So hear me out…
What if you DON’T donate to folks running for Congress and instead give directly to the people and community orgs that actually DO the things Congress refuses to do?
Just a thought.
In case you were wondering what I’ve been up to for the past ~10 months, I’ve been working with a group of amazing repro leaders to get a constitutional right to abortion on the ballot in 2024. Say hello to Arizona for Abortion Access!
If you can't say you're "pro-abortion," yet insist we're on the same side, we are not. I'm on the side of destigmatizing necessary healthcare, while you're hiding in the shadows, still married to language that must be "polite" to attract people to "our side." You're pro-stigma.
If a cop is holding your state-issued ID, but asks for your phone number and social security number to “identify you better” or so “the court can call you,” say “you’re holding my identification and the court contacts people by mail.” Ask me how I know?
#abolishthepolice
The AZ Supreme Court effectively ended abortion in our state. I’m devastated, but determined. Thanks for your messages. It’s busy today, so I promise to thank each of you once I get through this day.
@Misssharai
@NightmareFierce
@AuthorNinaPerez
@ProFanMan
Also, I'm so glad folks are finding joy and humor in this tweet, especially because we could all use some laughs right now. That's the point! This isn't "discourse." I'm not trying to seriously claim that woman. Some of y'all need to relax and have an edible. It's legal in AZ.
I'm begging Democrats to put down the polling on what language moves the 3"persuadable" voters left and just use inclusive, destigmatizing language because it's the right thing to do.
Ahem. Is this thing on?
Arizona for Abortion Access just passed 250,000 signatures!
We are well on our way to qualifying in July and winning in November.
Carry on.
Woke up in an AZ where abortion is legal again (for now)! I know many of you are excited and plan to attend marches today. Here’s a solid reminder that you can march, make signs, and speak about abortion without furthering abortion stigma. Here’s how!
#DestigmatizeAbortion
But when she asserts that it would do no good to get rid of the filibuster now because Republicans would just change things when they're in control, she ignores one thing. THEY ALREADY DO THAT. LIKE ALWAYS.
I think we all know that her view of the filibuster, and more largely, bipartisan compromise, are fiction. Bipartisanship requires that both parties come to the table as honest brokers. Republicans have made it abundantly clear that they are not interested.
Very special thank you to
@GovernorHobbs
,
@AZAGMayes
, their brilliant teams, the repro table partners, and everyone else involved in today's historic announcement. This is proof that we can do hard things if we work together!
I know y’all are being silly, but did you ever consider that these “if a fetus is a baby, then child support, HOV lanes, etc.” arguments simply bolster fetal personhood bullshit?
And badly co-opting the nonsense of anti is precisely how we got here.
Please stop it.
Conservatives know how not to waste a majority. SCOTUS fucked us again in the shadow docket.
So, it’s really time to get behind Katie Hobbs, Kris Mayes, and Julie Gunnigle.
I don’t care about debates. I don’t care about other primary nonsense. I’m telling you it’s time.
Kyrsten says "the filibuster compels moderation and helps protect the country from wild swings between opposing policy poles," but that is fiction. I don't need to repeat how the filibuster has roots in Jim Crow. Others have already said it. Go Google it.
Let me also note that Kyrsten is one of the most brilliant people I know, so she’s aware her argument is intellectually dishonest. She’s simply calculated that WE aren’t smart enough to see it. Also, I’m not so naive as to think what I’ve tweeted here will change her mind.
I just don't buy that preserving the filibuster is good for democracy when democracy itself depends of free and fair elections and the ability of ALL citizens to participate. Right now, Republicans are stripping voting rights from those who are already marginalized.
A state grand jury, made up of everyday, regular Arizonans, has handed down felony indictments in the ongoing investigation into the fake elector scheme in Arizona.
It's been almost 2 weeks since the SCOTUS leak and as I'm preparing for our
#BansOffOurBodies
rally this evening in Phoenix, I have some thoughts I'd like to share. A 🧵.
Further, this assertion is based upon the assumption immediate results for marginalized communities are somehow unworthy and easily overturned. It ignores the old political convention that it's easy to pass laws and extremely hard to revoke them. Just look at the ACA.
As the
#AZLeg
is poised to pass a 15-week Mississippi-style abortion ban, I just want to remind everyone that this isn’t only about abortion.
So, hear me out…
One more thing. If y'all don't stop the "even in cases of rape and incest" thing, I'm gonna scream! ALL ABORTIONS ARE WORTHY OF OUR SUPPORT.
#DestigmatizeAbortion
I wish nothing but the worst for Greg Abbot and his contemporaries (see Ducey). And before you tell me not to wish people ill, let me point out that’s exactly what they wish for the children of their states by preventing schools from mitigating COVID.
I woke up to my mentions being in shambles and a bunch of new followers. As a heads up, I post a lot about AZ politics, law, repro rights and justice (especially abortion), and horror movies. I also post messy tweets, which is why some of you are here now. Welcome.
So, doing what's right for democracy and what's simply the right thing are one in the same. That, my friend, is ending the filibuster and passing comprehensive voting rights legislation. You got into politics because you wanted to do the right thing. Now is your chance.
CONGRATULATIONS OHIO! This win is huge for Ohioans and for every American who believes that pregnant people should make decisions about abortion with their trusted medical providers, not politicians.
And the momentum will keep going in Arizona where we will win in 2024!
Is this the point where I plug something? I don’t have anything fun going on right now, so check out my pinned tweet and give to your local abortion fund (Google it)!
Things
@dougducey
didn't cover during the press conference:
* Relief for anyone in Arizona who doesn't own a restaurant.
* Schools.
* Implementing any of the mitigation urged by our best and brightest medical professionals and scientists.
* Anything remotely useful.
If our democracy is so fragile that we have to “vote like our lives depend on it” every single election and crooks and liars can take over at any moment, what exactly are we working so hard to save? Why aren’t we fighting to create something better that works for everyone?
Know how I've avoided getting COVID? Luck, getting my vaccine and booster, masking, and avoiding crowds, but mostly luck. Lots of folks have taken the same precautions I have and Omicron found them. I know some of y'all are doing the best you can. This is all just so ridiculous.
What keeps me going is knowing how my community and the communities I care about will be disproportionately impacted by this bullshit. I have to keep going. I have no choice. Sending love to all abortion workers and repro advocates tonight. Tomorrow, we’ll be back at it.
Now that this is making some lil numbers, please be advised that I will block anyone coming here with anti-abortion nonsense. That includes those of you who say you’re “pro-choice,” yet lean into stigma.
This is a pro-abortion space. There is no argument to be had about it. ✌🏾
Watching liberals reduce folks’ doubts about voting for a candidate who actively supports a genocide to “not getting 100% of what you want” is making my head hurt. Don’t tell me D are smarter and more socially aware than Rs ever again. This is shameful.
My advice: don’t get pregnant in Arizona right now, and if you’re already pregnant, you need a plan to leave in a medical emergency. That’s right! Our extreme ban impacts ALL pregnant patients.
If you haven’t joined
@azforaccess
, what are you waiting for?
Reading between the lines here, hospitals appear more afraid of criminal and civil charges for providing abortions to patients in a medical emergency than they are of federal penalties for turning those patients away.
Ok. Here goes.
We lost this round.
I can't say I'm devastated or shocked. I've know this was a possibility for the better part of a decade.
I can't say we can vote our way out of this. We've done that and those we elect fail us time and again.
The repeal of the 1864 ban is not immediate and can be replaced with other extreme bans. That’s why we needs to pass the AZ Abortion Access Act, which guarantees a constitutional, voter-protected right to abortion not subject to the whims of anti-abortion extremists!
Every single AZ politician who ran toward the police instead of calling out police violence in our own backyard should shut all the way up about
#TyreNichols
. This includes the ones I like. Your silence when it mattered speaks louder than your empty ass statements now. Fuck off!
9 years ago today, my water broke as I bounced on an exercise ball. 11 hours later, I bounced out a baby and almost died in the process. Totally worth it. 10/10. Highly recommend.
@azfamily
I'm not fooled by this. The territorial ban for which the injunction was recently lifted criminalizes *abortion providers.* Until she promises not to prosecutor providers, she's saying absolutely nothing.
I’m anxious with each drop and I’ve always supported Katie because she’s my friend IRL, but this last drop gives my pessimistic heart the tiniest bit of hope. 🤞🏾🤞🏾
Now, back to watching this George Michael doc and drinking wine.
This is 44, y’all! Pointing out my grays doesn’t bother me because I earned my stripes and I think they’re cute! At least I’m not aging like a banana. 🤣🤣
