Making a silly visual novel. I also like retro gaming and CRT monitors. The final Splatoon 1 NN player! Welcome to the World Wide Web! 🗿 →
@SKYLINE32BIT
Hello, squidkids! Another update from someone still in the Nintendo Network.
Almost a day after closing, I am the final Splatoon 1 player online. I’m going to hold out for as long as I can. I’m so lonely…
#Splatoon
Today, 30 April 2024 @ 2:30 P.M. EST, marks the final map rotation in Splatoon 1 on the Nintendo Network. These maps are set to be in rotation for the next ten years.
Here is the final Squid Sisters broadcast from the Nintendo Network.
BREAKING NEWS!! I just got the map rotation notification… fifty-seven minutes later than expected. It seems like things are gearing down for a final discontinuation on Nintendo’s side, but I’m still in and getting the news.
…Did Nintendo finally turn off map rotations in Splatoon 1? Usually, they send a news flash for the Squid Sisters out at ten my time (eighteen minutes ago). I’m still connected and very much online, though.
(GamePad view taken now, then a timestamped picture of the rotation.)
Hold on to your tentacles… for some bad news.
As of the (delayed) 2:00 A.M. EST rotation, matchmaking (lobby) has officially gone down in Splatoon. Other online services, including the news and shops, are still functional and I still remain online.
I repeat, I am STILL online.
Maps changed. I’ll find someone eventually…! I hope.
Ninety-nine tanks of ink on my back, ninety-nine tanks of ink… Take one down, splat it around, ninety-eight tanks of ink on my back…
Just gonna give a quick update on how things are going! I’ve already explained everything on my main thread, but here’s the latest Splatoon 1 NN rotation with the latest news. As you can see, with three seconds left on the clock, I am *still* alone here!
Ahoy! Good morning to all! I kept having nightmares that I got disconnected, but the Captain stays strong in the face of danger… er, connection errors.
Look at the Squid Sisters. There’s no way they’re not holograms or something! COME VISIT ME ALREADY, MARIE!! WAHH!!
My name wasn’t mentioned at all, but it’s still surreal to have another news piece about me! Thank you so much for your support!!
I’ll keep going for all of you!
Ahoy all! Here we are with another rotation! Would it be too soon to call myself the new Captain of the New Squidbeak Splatoon…? Ooh, that’s a title I’ve always wanted! I feel like I’ve earned it.
Anyway, more maps!
Good morning, squid researchers! As you can see, I’m still in the lobby. I ran out of food, but I’ve discovered that drinking one’s own ink could be a suitable replacement…
Ack!! I’ll never try that again. Anyway, here’s the rotation!
We’ve found the second-to-last Splatoon player, finalday! Remember finalday? Well, they’re actually
@hotsausz
, who left the Nintendo Network on 9 April. Welcome aboard!
Your nightly captain’s update is here! It has now been four days since the Nintendo Network shutdown. To commemorate four days of staying in the lobby, I’ve decided to give Tower Control a go!
…I think I can just steal the tower now that no one’s around to stop me.
So what does this mean for me? I’m still going to stay in the game for as long as there’s something new to document. Currently, I don’t have any plans to disconnect from the Nintendo Network. I still want to see if the shops update tonight.
For now, I’ll just keep swimming.
One week ago, the rotation severs began sending out delayed newscasts (delayed by thirty minutes) and the matchmaking servers shut down a few days ago. For now, this single rotation is the last thing left on the Nintendo Network for Splatoon - besides myself.
I’m going to see what happens in four hours from now. Since this is one continuous rotation, I believe that this was the final update from Callie and Marie.
Here are the shops, still the same from last night’s shop rotation.
It is currently 6:30 P.M. EST. There has not been a newsflash from Callie and Marie, meaning that the one previously recorded above was their final broadcast.
I still remain online.
Apologies for the shaky camerawork. As you can see, a diet of ink doesn’t really strengthen the bones… Wait. Inklings don’t even *have* bones! Also, I just woke up.
The shop and news updates are the two ways to tell if you’re still online. If you’re offline, you can no longer enter the shops. I am still online, but the lobby gives me the error code for maintenance, 106-0811.
I intend to stay online in this state for as long as possible.
This is your captain speaking. (Did I do that right?) The maps have rotated once again. Right now, it’s been TWO DAYS since the Nintendo Network shutdown.
I swear the Squid Sisters are repeating themselves by now. Maybe they’re not even real! Maybe they’re just a RECORDING! Aha!!
Captain’s update! Three days after the Nintendo Network shutdown, I’m still alone in the lobby! And what a wonderful three days it’s been. I really can’t thank you enough for your support, squid researchers. Now, let’s keep swimming forward for as long as we can!
Hey, have you ever heard of EarthBound? Hey, have you ever heard of EarthBound? Hey, have you ever heard of EarthBound? Hey, have you ever heard of EarthBound? Hey, have you ever heard of EarthBound? Hey, have you ever heard of EarthBound? Hey, have you ever heard of EarthBou
It is nearly five in the morning on the East Coast. I am the sole squiddy survivor of the Nintendo Network shutdown. I’m going to go to bed, leaving the lobby open so I can stay in for as long as I possibly can.
Don’t break this for me, Callie and Marie.
Captain’s update! We’ve got one more map rotation tonight before I go to sleep. I’ve carefully constructed my theories and I’m here to declare that… THE SQUID SISTERS AREN’T REAL!!
Look at them. Always in the same place, always saying the same things… Plus, they won’t visit me!
As of 8:00 P.M. EST, the shops have updated with new gear. Only time will tell if this is the final gear rotation, but it seems like this is still changing… for now.
@OatmealDome
Hello, everyone. I’m the last one left in Splatoon 1. I held out for nearly one month, but I finally reached the end.
Thank you so much for all of your support.

Today, 30 April 2024 @ 2:30 P.M. EST, marks the final map rotation in Splatoon 1 on the Nintendo Network. These maps are set to be in rotation for the next ten years.
Here is the final Squid Sisters broadcast from the Nintendo Network.
And now I’m on Inkipedia! Honestly, this one is an even bigger honor. I’m so glad to be a part of Splatoon history and I’d like to thank all of you for being a part of it with me.
(It’s under the page for Splatoon 1!)
Ahoy ahoy! Good (belated) morning to all the squid researchers out there! Things are getting easier with each rotation. Hey, here’s the latest one!
Since we’re nearing three days, updates to this thread will slow a bit. Rest assured that I’ll try to update as much as possible!
In my nine years of playing this game, I can’t think of a single instance where the news has come at an irregular time. I feel like I remember that it didn’t come during Splatfest unless you restarted the game because that was three stages for two days, but that’s it.
This error code is the same as the code displayed during the 2023 freeze on Splatoon and MK8 matchmaking due to a harmful exploit being discovered. Just like back then, the news continues to come in (but it’s delayed now) and the shops change at 00:00 UTC and still open.
@JoshuaM12450
I really want to see what happens then, but I think I’ll either encounter an internet outage or power everything off by then. Then again, I stayed in the eShop for over a month last year…
No. I mustn’t. I want to see my squid friends again.
Aha! I’ve cracked the code. I had a hunch, so I waited around until exactly 2:30 and that’s when the rotation was sent out. So something’s causing it to be sent out at a delayed time. Very odd.
This is your captain speaking with your daily map update, going into day five of the Nintendo Network shutdown! Now, we know that Judd’s survived the downfall of humanity, but I wonder if he’s also survived the end of online services… No. I can’t check. It would hurt too much!
It’s time for your daily captain’s update, sponsored by Forge! This is an exciting one. Today, on day twenty-five, myself and the rest of the Nintendo Network After Hours group have beat Apache N4SIR and the Noble 14’s record. There are eight of us left on the Nintendo Network.
You would never visit me in the lobby, Marie. Now, I can visit your hologra- er, 100% real squiddy likeness from the Plaza. I will seek my revenge on you for LYING TO THE MASSES ABOUT NOT BEING A RECORDING!
This is your captain speaking! As of forty-seven minutes ago, I have officially stayed online on Splatoon 1 for ONE MONTH (thirty days) after the Nintendo Network shutdown! I should probably get a new piece of paper, though.
Getting word that Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo Network) is just down to one player after one of the 3DS systems locked up. There’s now four players left on the Nintendo Network.
I’m shaking. My console froze for a few minutes just as I went to enter Booyah Base and I thought it was over. It then loaded.
My ink color has changed yet again. (Went from pink to green a few days ago when it hung similarly.) I think this might be caused by bad data. Day 38.
I can confirm that as of 2:02 A.M. EST, two minutes after the next rotation was to be sent out, Splatoon 1 has not gotten it yet. I’ll report back towards the end of the hour. If there’s no new rotations, then that’s that.
Good morning! Here’s your daily captain’s update from Nintendo Network Splatoon 1. We’re on day six now, so let’s make the best of it!
In other Inkopolis news, congratulations to Jackpot for winning the ‘24 World Championships!! I’ll keep going for you, my squid idols.
This captain’s update is brought to you by Forge! Good morning! The fine cephalopods at Forge made me an offer I couldn’t refuse… so now I’m shelling, er, shilling this fine product!
The Forge Splattershot Pro! It keeps me company on those lonely nights…
…DAY SEVEN! Yes.
@GaffsNotLaffs
I. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPEN. EVERYTHING FROZE FOR FIVE MINUTES AND THE SHOP FINALLY LOADED. MY INK COLOR HAS CHANGED YET AGAIN. (It did something similar on the day when it turned green.)
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON
It really is an amazing feeling to have so many people following me along to see what happens next on the Nintendo Network. I sound like a broken record here, but I really do thank you for everything you’ve done for me.
(This news is up-to-date, but it got pushed thirty minutes later like it’s been since last night. Pretendo shares the same rotations until the end of the month.)
Day fifteen is upon us! The lobby staff have caught on, as I’ve been locked out of it… But I’m still online in the plaza and shops, even though Splatoon’s matchmaking (lobby) servers have officially gone down.
Hopefully I can keep my Forge sponsorship… HEY!! I’M STILL ONLINE!!
This captain’s update is brought to you by Forge! Feeling down? The Forge Inkling Parka is sure to bring back those warm, war memories!
…Wait a second, that won’t cheer people up! They better find a better PR guy because I’m not good at this schtick!
We’re onto DAY EIGHT!
This is your daily Captain’s Update, sponsored by Forge! It’s day 49 and, in Japan, the ninth anniversary of Splatoon! Happy early birthday to the game that started it all!
I got yet another article written about me! Special shout-out to the other players in the Nintendo Network After Hours group for hanging onto that inkrail with me, even when everything’s finally dripping down.
Captain’s update! Sponsored by Forge, of course.
DAY TWENTY! Oh yes, it’s been twenty days since the Nintendo Network shutdown and I’m still here! Thank you all for following along! By the way, doesn’t this call for some kind of celebration? Forge gear is 15% off at Jelly Fresh!
My theories on what’s going to happen:
- Since it’s one continuous rotation, this will be the last Squid Sisters newsflash.
- The shops will have the same inventory as they do tonight - indefinitely.
- Nothing’s gonna break… yet.
- The newsflash scheduled for 6:30 won’t come.
GIVE IT UP FOR DAY TWENTY-THREE! Oh, uh, this is your daily captain’s update, sponsored by Forge! Other than some new items in the shop, there’s not much to comment on.
@GameWheelReal
I feel like the news being delayed by thirty minutes to an hour is even stranger. It seems like Nintendo is finally shuttering some multiplayer services from Splatoon, even though they’ve been inaccessible to new players for two weeks.
The dawn of day twenty-one is upon us and this is your captain’s update, sponsored by Forge! Cool fashion aside, the next post, coming almost exactly one day from now, will have the final rotation, which lasts for ten years. Keep enjoying the news because who knows if it’ll end!
This is your captain’s update, HOPEFULLY STILL SPONSORED BY FORGE!! Uh, it’s day sixteen and… will they even allow me to try on non-Forge gear? I know this is a sin, but I just *gotta* check this shirt out!
4,000 followers!! Perfect timing to have the balloons fly on my profile, Twitter. Thank you all SO much for your endless support! It means so much to me. As always… STAY FRESH!
PLEASE NOTE: I am still very much alone. finalday hasn’t been seen in the lobby since I woke up on the ninth. The timeline I’ve put together is still, for the most part, correct. There is no one else left in Splatoon.
My ink color changed from pink to green overnight. I have absolutely no explanation for why this happened. My final battle had pink ink and that’s the color that my inksona has. I’m just more confused than anything else.
This is your daily Captain’s Update, sponsored by Forge! Hey, my parka’s in the shop! I don’t remember seeing it until now. It’s a good one, so you should buy it! (Or else I’ll lose my sponsorship!)
There are currently four players left on the Nintendo Network. It is day 35.
This is your daily Captain’s Update, sponsored by Forge! Happy ninth anniversary to Splatoon! As you can see, I’m still here in Inkopolis Plaza. By the time this rotation ends, the game will be nineteen! That’s a scary thought…
It’s DAY 50 today!!
Ahoy ahoy ahoy! It’s day ten and your captain’s update, sponsored by Forge, is here! For the true Forge enthusiasts, the Shell-Out Machine has been restocked with Forge’s own banner! Test your luck today in the lobby!
…The other lobby. The one with squids in it.
This is your daily Captain’s Update, sponsored by Forge! Sorry for being late this time! I was still out and celebrating my birthday. It was a fantastic one, thanks to everyone here!!
Day 42 on the Nintendo Network!
This is your daily Captain’s Update, sponsored by Forge! Hey, I know this isn’t a piece of Forge gear, but Rockenberg’s Inky Riders are really sleek… Oop! Don’t tell my sponsors I talked about this. This is between YOU AND ME ONLY. You hear?
It is DAY 34!
@GaffsNotLaffs
@APACHE_N4SIR
It’s such a massive honor to be one of the Crazy 8, or whatever we’re calling each other now. Thank you, After Hours friends, for being the very best and the very strongest.
Snzzz… AH, HAH?! This, uh, very late captain’s update is brought to you by Forge!! Sorry, looks like I overslept in my FA-01 Jacket again. It keeps me so warm…
We’re on day eleven now, which means another day of Squid Beatz and… going back to sleep. I’m too tired for this!
This is your late night captain’s update, sponsored by Forge! Let’s check the shops and… NO FORGE GEAR?! But how am I going to do a sponsorship post now? Uh… BUY THE FORGE SPLATTERSHOT PRO!
By the way, it’s day-twenty nine! As you can see from my reused piece of paper…
@MegaPlayer09
Nope, I can’t back out. I had Animal Crossing open on my NN2DSXL and tried to watch one of the videos, but that led to me getting kicked out a few hours after closing.
This is your captain’s update, sponsored by Forge! BUY THESE HEADPHONES OR THEY’LL KILL, er, KRILL ME!! They’re great! They’re even iconic! Perfect for a throwback! Just please, support Forge so I don’t get… Oh, uh, it’s day nineteen, by the way!
This is your daily Captain’s Update, sponsored by Forge! It’s day thirty-one! I’m *really* late today and I sincerely apologize for that. Yawn… Maybe I should take a nap right in front of the Booyah Base.
