Prairie voles that don't have oxytocin receptors still bond and parent, as we (@UCSFPsychiatry and @UCSF), @BalesLab & @Shah_Laboratory show in @NeuroCellPress.

Their work really shows the power of genetics and that the brain can be wired for bonding during development without OxtR function even when acute disruptions of the pathway in adults dramatically interferes with it.

Very excited to share the work of Kristen Berendzen and Ruchira Sharma and our collaborators in the @BalesLab and @Shah_Laboratory Strikingly, we find the oxytocin receptor is NOT required for partner preference or parenting behaviors in prairie voles.
