4 days out from my life-changing surgery, @Aetna has denied the appeal for my brain surgery. to be clear, when i signed up to aetna months ago, the coordinator had confirmed they would cover this surgery. then, a week ago, they said the surgery was too experimental/elective and

entered manually w/Carelon. Carelon says no. BCBS says “not our problem either.” WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?! We’ve tried EVERYTHING asked of us for months to get approved. The incompetence is astonishing. @mayoclinic @bcbstx this is unacceptable, abysmal patient “care” 4/4

actually you need to have Carelon, our 3rd party decision-maker get out of network approval. Call Carelon. “We don’t have authorization to do that.” Back to Mayo, who says “try this NPI number”. BCBS says it doesn’t pull up/isn’t valid. Mayo says it’s because it needs to be 3/4

Wrong. Bcbs says another. Wrong. Mayo says actually you need all of the billing codes for the hospital approved. Wrong. BCBS says “actually you’re covered in full.” Mayo says if I go, I will be considered not covered and coming home with a $700k bill. Then BCBS says oops, 2/4

Getting back on this acct to scream for help. Since MAY I have been trying to get approval to continue my care at @MayoClinic. Between Mayo, @bcbstx and Carelon, they have led me and my PCPs office down 40 different paths to obtain approval. Mayo says one thing. We go do it. 1/4
