I feel the same way about math! After a student shares their strategy, I love when kids ask each other questions to understand their thinking. Most of the time their ?s are way better than the ones I planned.

English teachers: nothing better than when a student asks that PERFECT question mid-lesson about the text you're reading, right, one you could never have gotten to on your own? —and then you have the ENTIRE class write it down + pivot into a whole-new discussion? ❤️ #lovethisjob

What separates the 10% most engaging teachers from the rest? Hypothesis: the most engaging teachers are also the most ENGAGED teachers? Engaged in their discipline. Engaged by their students. How do we develop that tendency? I wrote about one possibility.

A kid said something funny in class today and the entire room, myself included, burst out laughing and could not stop for several very long, very joyous minutes. I was in tears. That won’t show up in any data sheet, but it matters too.

Do you love using the 5 Practices as a roadmap to facilitate student thinking? We do too! We leveraged S strengths to develop two different learning goals for the same task. Check it out! @Damien_Ettere

I don’t want my class to prepare students for ‘the real world.’ I want my class to help students dream of a better world.

Doing math together in our CLT is my favorite. But doing math while eating chocolate covered pretzels with holiday sprinkles is a new level of #mathjoy @KellyQHalpin @WendyWall_Math @KLScottMath @slwillerth @MathematicsFcps

Has anyone tried something like this? I appreciate how we can see the relationship of the factors and how the arrays grow.

The best multiplication charts are made for students by students. Instead of just facts...why not have a visual? Make facts meaningful. #iteachmath #HRCEmath

Check out the 5 Practices in action here! The strategies were selected and sequenced in such an intentional way to address big fractional ideas. I appreciate the opportunity to connect that last strategy with the first couple of pictorial ones.

Helped at my kids' Fall Festival. While the rest of the parents took photos of their kids, I took pictures of the math. 😂🎃 Whipped together a couple of ideas for math task here. But you could use the photos and make different ones!
