Century-long biodiversity loss through increases in shade and nutrients in Czech Republic forests - great to have evidence now for what we feel has happened a lot also in other parts of Central Europe.
Czech forests have become more monotonous. The more varied open forests have been disappearing for a long time, replaced by shady forests that are richer in nutrients. These are the results of a study by @VegetPaleo colleagues just published in @NewPhyt.

Great new paper and thread on native and introduced megafauna - fresh thinking on invasion ecology and the ecological relevance of grazers' (foraging) traits.👇
Delighted to see this paper finally published! Thank you to @JCSvenning, the fantastic coauthor team, and to @ScienceMagazine. [1/14] 🧵 https://t.co/nKup5qqrE5

Beautifully illustrated thread about our new perspective paper on land #abandonment and biodiversity (out today in @ScienceMagazine). Also summarized by @gndaskalova on the Science podcast:
science.org
On this week’s show: A new approach promises to increase organ transplants but some question whether they should proceed without revisiting the definition of death, and what happens to rural lands...
From fields no longer plowed to entire villages where nobody turns the lights on, abandonment is transforming #biodiversity and influencing livelihoods and conservation. For more, see our new Perspective with @KampJohannes @ScienceMagazine @IIASAVienna . https://t.co/dOE5WQKZxN

With spring in the air, the days of the very large #Brambling roost near Göttingen are now counted as the birds start leaving for their breeding grounds. Impressive manoeuvres (sound on!), with estimates by local observers ranging from 2 to 10 million birds. #Ornithology
