Our review of virological studies on African #bats suggests various biases. Most importantly, evidence is lacking for πŸ¦‡ as reservoir hosts for almost all studied #viruses. We call for a systematic approach and the consideration of bat conservation: doi 10.1098/rsbl.2023.0358

Interesting Nature Communications paper showing that acoustic indices and metrics derived from convolutional neural networks, applied to @OpenAcoustics AudioMoth data, correlate well with measures of forest restoration. https://t.co/ndq89xTX8R

Announcing 2 new #PhD positions in our πŸ¦‡lab! Monitoring bat population trends is hard. In a new project, BatTrend, we will explore both new methods and optimize established ones to help improve monitoring guidelines. Info about the 2 positions in the 🧡 below. RTs appreciated!

Everybody loves colors but only few know how to use them well. With the right guidelines, using colors becomes super easy. Let me show you how to implement these guidelines with ggplot 🧡 #rstats

The calm chirp of the tree crickets definitely makes the sound of peaceful summer nights, but this can hide a vital race for acoustic space among sibling species. Who will win? Read more about this new paper with @leonardoancillo: https://t.co/ekl88GvdiR

Our study on #butterfly #evolution, #hostplants & #ranges is now formally out! We built a phylogeny of 2000 sp and found butterflies originated in N. America 100M years ago, likely fed on legumes. ~100 scientists from 28 countries contributed. Thanks all!

As a professor, pursue the careers of your PhD students and postdocs instead of pursuing your own. I know it may sound strange and even provocative. But in fact it is how it’s supposed to be. Unfortunately, a personal gain is the biggest motivation for many professors. More
