This claim is false and disingenuous in response to @mattyglesias @nytopinion essay. Here is @hausfath demonstrating that at 2% leak rate natural gas brings substantial climate benefits compared with coal and still is superior even with twice that level of leakage.
@mattyglesias Two percent methane leakage puts gas’s climate risk on par with coal (some studies say just 0.2 percent does). We’re at way more than that (9 percent attested in some regions). There has NEVER been a realistic plan (technically or politically) to solve methane leakage at this
