Can we finally put to bed the notion that residents don’t make money for hospitals? A giant for-profit conglomerate isn’t sponsoring 1/20 US residents out of the goodness of their heart.
Here’s a statistic for you:. HCA Healthcare - a for-profit hospital chain - now sponsors around 1 in 20 residency positions in the United States.

Formal preference signaling can’t come fast enough. Wrote so many “love letters” saying this California transplant did in fact want to stay in the Midwest, but not sure anyone believed me.
BIG NEWS this week for residency applicants in otolaryngology. This year’s applicants will have the option of sending a formal signal of interest to up to 5 programs. So who wins - and who loses - when we implement formal preference signaling? .
