Land and bricks and concrete and other things you need to build houses are free; the entire £25 budget goes on salaries and the infinity money whirlpool machine goes brrrrrrr so you can rent them out at a £575+M per year loss without actually losing money.

@KMc_head @ToryFibs No it's not. For a start, ~35% of the £25bn comes straight back as income tax + NI. That's enough to cover the annual shortfall you highlight for 15 years (by which time rental income has risen above interest costs).

The "decade-long Brexit study" just looked at a graph, *assumed* a change to the slope was due to Brexit, and then said the difference was due to Brexit. Yes, it's that simple. Yes, pretty much all these studies work this way.

Rachel Reeves says there’s a “hole” in the public finances. A new decade-long Brexit study explains it: a 6–8% hit to GDP – that's £180bn-£240bn a year. Brexit made Britain poorer. Much poorer. https://t.co/kDDLrfPBUY

600M rental income on 25B is 2.4% gross return. Cost of UK Govt borrowing is currently 4.7%. So what's being promoted here is a minimum 575M loss per year, before taking admin costs into account. Apparently this will make us all richer... Lefties and numbers, eh? 🤦

The UK should borrow £25 billion to build 100,000 Council Homes (annually) • 155,000 jobs. • £600m rental income pa • Add 1% to GDP pa. The state retains the asset of £25bn & rising. Borrowing to invest in state owned assets such as council housing enriches every one of us

@KMc_head @ushouldbeontv @eoinyk There is a kind-of moral narcissism in countries like Ireland adopting an alleged neutral stance when that neutrality is protected and underwritten by Britain lying between them and any possible threats.

Britain is a poor country; committed to artificially compressing median domestic wages until every Englishman earns £25-40k irrespective of skill or qualification. Squeezed between tax brackets & Blairite minimum wage legislation. It is only natural people are choosing to earn

@BDSixsmith But of course he did. Chommers's critique of power fundamentally derives from the fact that Chommers himself does not have as much power as he thinks he deserves. He never saw a non-America-supported 3rd world tyrant that didn't dampen his gusset, for instance...

This is one of the more historically entertaining articles that I have recently written. At present, the nations of the African Union - Nigeria, Benin, Ethiopia, Ghana, Libya, Morocco - are seeking reparations for the Atlantic Slave Trade. I note an obvious practical problem

There's a lot of truth to this. Wherever we have data, we see this repeated: Communists tend to be downwardly mobile. They are, always and everywhere, disproportionately likely to be their generation's losers. Consider this Finnish data on the Red and White Guards:
