👇 Important experimental results from Liberia on the role of legibility 🧐 for successful public policies -- in the case of taxation knowing the taxpayer is often the first order challenge in LICs ! And often taken for granted in standard public finance models & research.
In this piece, I share results from a project in Liberia that highlights the need for governments to invest in systems for collecting information on citizens to be able to collect tax revenues. But information is insufficient; it must be coupled with legal enforcement.
