This graph. I've seen versions of it many times but I'm still shocked by how much of public spending is taken up by health (below is a projection, but these days it's close to 50% of day to day spending).
1. Health dwarfs other departments. Choices on NHS have a big effect on overall size of the state and/or money available for other areas.Total public spending is due to rise by 1% p.a. (real-terms) in next parliament. ‘Protecting’ some areas, incl. NHS, means 3% p.a.cuts for most
