Ending today a visit to Myanmar. Wars, disasters, displacement, hunger: the forgotten plight of so many people in Myanmar, like the Rohingya, never ends. In a world becoming scary, they have lived in fear for years. They, too, deserve political attention and humanitarian aid.

The recent earthquake has affected more than 500,000 people in E Afghanistan — aid from donors, including Pakistan, is vital and welcome. Especially given the circumstances, I appeal to the @GovtofPakistan to pause the implementation of the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan.

A major earthquake has caused many casualties in Afghanistan. This adds death and destruction to other challenges including drought and the forced return of millions of Afghans from neighbouring countries. Hopefully the donor community will not hesitate to support relief efforts.

A vast return operation for Afghans in Iran is underway. I have agreed with officials in Kabul and Tehran to resume tripartite talks to address their concerns, ensure the fulfillment of their responsibilities, uphold the rights of the people impacted and mobilize donor support.

I discussed the returnee emergency with the Taliban leadership and the importance of a safe and dignified response for all returnees, especially women and children. More international support for the Afghan people is needed at a time of multiple challenges in the country.

An even deeper humanitarian crisis is looming in Afghanistan as tens of thousands of Afghans are being forced to return from neighbouring countries of Pakistan and Iran. Here's what you need to know.

Nearly 120,000 Afghans have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan in April this year. Among them are women and girls, who face an uncertain future with limited access to education and employment. UNHCR is supporting with emergency aid and services, but more is needed.
