Access remains difficult in areas affected by violence in Sweida. EU humanitarian partners, including @WFP, are scaling up their response to meet the needs of the population. We continue to call on actors to guarantee safe & sustained access for humanitarian aid in South Syria.
Since violence erupted in Southern #Syria, @WFP swiftly mobilized food supplies via @SYRedCrescent. to support displaced people in #Sweida, #Daraa & #RuralDamascus. Thanks to our generous donors - including 🇨🇦, 🇪🇺, 🇩🇪, 🇮🇹, 🇰🇷, 🇬🇧 & 🇺🇸 - for making this possible.

The 8.8-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia, one of the strongest on record, has affected the entire Pacific. Tsunami warnings have been issued in 🇯🇵&🇺🇸. The EU’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre is monitoring the progression & is ready to mobilise assistance.

Following Albania's request for further assistance on Friday, two Canadairs from 🇮🇹 and one from 🇭🇷 from the #rescEU fleet have been assisting the national teams on the ground in the firefighting efforts over the weekend.

Following Bulgaria's request for assistance for forest fires, several resources from the #rescEU fleet have been mobilised. 4 helicopters from 🇭🇺,🇸🇰, 🇨🇿 and🇫🇷 and 2 firefighting airplanes from 🇸🇪 will help the national teams on the ground.

As Greece is fighting several fires, we responded to their request for assistance by deploying 2 Canadairs from 🇮🇹 from the #rescEU fleet this afternoon and we are closely monitoring the situation with Copernicus satellite images.
