I talked to @Oregonian about the teacher strike and my son, 2nd grade SpEd student
🤞that the PDX teacher strike resolves in the next few days. Before it does, I wanted to highlight the voices of special education families, whose kids have really struggled with the disruption to routine and consistency.

Our new paper on San Francisco's PPLO is out. Though paid leave has clear and well-documented benefits, the impact on health outcomes can be hard to detect in a population-based study. This partly has to do with limitations in who the policy is actually reaching. 👇

While state PFML policies don't eliminate these inequities entirely, they are a critical first step. And there is ZERO overlap between the states with PFML laws and the states banning abortion. (4/5)

This is driven by structural racism that limits employment opportunities. We saw the starkest inequities in private-sector and nonunionized jobs. (3/5)

We found large and significant inequities in access to #PFML. Asian, Black, and Hispanic workers were 8.6, 12.7, and 23.4 percentage points less likely to report access to PFML, respectively, than White workers. (And only 54% of white workers had access to PFML.) (2/5)

Overturning Roe v Wade is racist and anti-public health. Lawyers in the Dobbs case argued that abortion's no longer necessary because combining work/fam is now so easy and #paidleave is common. Not quite, says our new article in @AMJPublicHealth (and common sense). (1/5)

Access to abortion does not occur in a vacuum — it is inextricably linked to other protections that women and all those who give birth need to decide when to start a family, provide care to their family, and live healthy, productive lives.

Check out this new report I co-authored with @sarahfsmall for @RUWomenandWork ! Whose job is NOT protected when taking Family Leave in NJ? We estimate that around 35% of workers are not covered. https://t.co/4iuHxbMKVu
