@1962ndc999 As for culture change? The ‘leopard can’t change its spots’ proverb has more scientific basis than most imagine. We are strongly influenced by hard-wiring. Relying on people to change their behaviour is like waiting for their eyes to change colour ... https://t.co/XQZMGlVd40

What’s even more ridiculous than the Red Bull overspend penalty, is the fact that super-rich companies that make large profits by developing products that nobody uses and are scrapped after one year, can claim HMRC R&D tax credits. #RBR #redbullracing #Formula1

300+ signed up to consider the perils of choosing modern materials; flaws remaining in AD B & classification standards; how Grenfell-like ACM can still be used & why, scarily, fire performance might not be the biggest driver for change. Warning: contains building fire videos.
Don’t miss your chance to join us as Dr Jonathan Evans presents an exclusive webinar, which will give you an update on the recent regulatory changes and their impact on external building design. Register today: https://t.co/tqLYlFDQvr

Part B (Fire) of the Building Regs aims to secure “reasonable standards of health & safety”. There’s no mention of “life safety”. If residents develop ‘mental health’ problems due to the fear of living in buildings that followed the Guidance, then it has failed in its purpose.

The uncertainty/risks of litigation. After a $billion high-rise PE ACM fire, insurer fails to recover its payout after court concludes “there were no errors in the manner in which the building was constructed”. Will insurers now create their own rules?

… oh, and we still have flawed classification standards, which I will illustrate.

We have changing Govt guidance, retrospective Regulations, industry disagreement, greater liabilities & ongoing research indicating new dangers in innovative products. I’ll discuss the perils of choosing & assessing engineering materials on October 12th.

“Moelven also supplied the frame for the 85.4m-tall Mjösa Tower in Brumunddal, currently the world’s tallest timber-framed building” Let’s hope it doesn’t suddenly become the worlds shortest timber-framed building.

Hey fire safety Twitter, advice please! RBKC are removing timber cladding and flammable Kingspan insulation installed in 2018 (!!!) from this block. Which is a good thing. However they have left it over the weekend thus: 1/3

Further grumble about Torero. Why didn't he support his view that current tests/classifications are functionally inadequate with proof? i.e. can he test the current ADB with a realistic 11m+ design that's still dangerous? I doubt it. Otherwise, as they say, he's just whining.

(8/8) Just take a moment and consider what would have happened at Grenfell on 14/6/17 if the EEIS had been in place at the time – would the outcome be substantially different? What about if PEEPs had been implemented? Which would you want for your family, a PEEP or the EEIS?

There seems to be a concerted effort now to rebrand light timber-framed construction as “net zero”.

❗Despite all the real-life fires (inc. ours), the Govt's new Fire Risk Prioritisation Tool doesn't have any Qu. allowing a user to identify a timber-frame structure as a risk factor 👇 https://t.co/nDbeDH5c9h Why not @team_greenhalgh @luhc @LondonFire ? #EndOurCladdingScandal

Last month a building in Deptford was seriously damaged in a huge fire We now know it had a timber frame, with fire burning inside the cavity and had been assessed as appropriate for stay put: https://t.co/5Dnw3fwFbm

The administrator says their appointment “follows various operational issues relating to the factory in Alfreton” - presumably, mostly that there is a factory in the first place. There’s huge supply chain capacity already. Like semiconductors, the future is fab-less building.

Well, this is embarrassing @luhc @team_greenhalgh Yet another modular builder who was going to show the construction industry how it’s done, bites the dust. How much taxpayer’s money went into this shambles? #moderniseanddie
