A House of Dynamite debuts on Netflix today. And so does my podcast with the writer! This film is a deeply researched, realistic portrayal of nuclear crisis by Noah Oppenheim, ex-president NBC News. We talk about nuclear x-risk, politics, and filmmaking on The World Unpacked.

The Supreme Court case (arguments scheduled for 11/5) will be interesting. Does a TV ad quoting Ronald Reagan qualify for the kind of emergency that would allow the president to circumvent Congress’s power over tariffs?

New report outlines initiatives that could help stabilize three of the most dangerous and potentially intractable disputes at the core of the U.S.-China rivalry: Taiwan, the South China Sea, and competition in science and technology.

That this defense needs to be written is part of the problem with past policy. It is not just propagandists who believe that US policy was about crippling China’s economy. Our policy essentially did two things: 1) made it seem like we were trying to crush the Chinese economy 2)

It looks like AI music is following the same path as AI text: 1) Appears to have passed the Turing Test, people are only 50/50 in identifying older Suno vs. human songs (but 60/40 when two songs are the same genre) 2) Same fast development, new models are getting better quickly.
