Very sad to hear Stalag Luft 3 Great Escape survivor Jack Lyon has died aged 101. Shot down 1941, Jack was to be number 79 into the tunnel but it was discovered after 76 men escaped. 50 of those were murdered by the Gestapo. A truly wonderful man, he said "luck was on my side".

28 yrs ago, Kuwait was liberated, the 1st Gulf War was over, prisoners-of-war exchanged & we merry band of PoWs started our journey to freedom. We were jolly happy! & somewhat eager to see: friends, food, beer, news & so much more.

I first met Ben at the Sun Millies in 2008. He is a truly astonishing soldier. I have watched his 16 yr battle for recovery; an incredible feat of courage & an example to us all. His parallel battle for care & support from the State which sent him to war is a stain on our nation.
Ben Parkinson has finally won his fight for a long-term care package, more than 12 years after he suffered catastrophic injuries. He is the most wounded British soldier from the war in Afghanistan.
