WWII Veteran Don Turrell had a wonderful day at Alnwick Castle yesterday, while Eugeniusz Niedzielski visited Kelso and Dorothea Barron was delighted to see The Kelpies, the world's largest equine sculptures.

Born & died this day, 31st July. The wonderful Flt Lt Archie McInnes - one of the last of #thefew who died on the very evening of his 💯 birthday in 2019. A great man who adored the Hawker Hurricane 🙌🏻 #BattleofBritain #lestweforget

John ‘Paddy’ Hemingway DFC, the last surviving #BattleofFrance & #BattleofBritain airman would have turned 106 today! He sadly passed away this March, an extremely proud Irishman on St Patrick’s Day - in this 85th Anniversary year of those historic events. #TheFew #LestWeForget

History dates today as the start of the #BattleofBritain 85 yrs ago. This, the first year without no surviving airmen following Paddy Hemingways passing in March, aged 105. Feel hugely grateful to have spent such time in the company of the last of my heroes. We will remember them

Saddened to read of the passing of Alan ‘Mac’ McQuillan, a D-Day veteran who I was lucky to meet & thank in Normandy last year. Alan served with RAF 3210 Servicing Commando Unit, landing on Juno on D-Day+1 as an armourer for the Allied airstrips. He was 102 #greatestgeneration

Ernest Waite Wootten CBE, DFC*, AFC - Born 1918 he joined the RAF in 1938 & converted to Spitfires in Sept 1940. Posted to No.234 Sqn at RAF Warmwell he flew during the #BattleofBritain until late 1941. He died age 80 having completed 5 tours on Spitfires with 13 aerial victories

Sgt Ernest Bloor, born 1914 joined the RAF in 1930. After pilot training he joined No.46 Sqn flying Hurricanes during the #BattleofBritain He was killed age 27 on 27/8/41 flying with No.1 Sqn - Hurricane Z3843 crashed after its engine cut out. He baled out but was sadly too low.

F/O Bernard Howe born 1919, joining No.25 Sqn at North Weald in August 1939. He flew Blenheims - later posted to No.263 Sqn at St Eval flying Whirlwinds. He was killed whilst visiting RAF Wittering when his Whirlwind P6992 crashed low flying due to mechanical failure. He was 22.
