The results indicate that tipping point forewarnings compared to linear predictions of climate change did not differ in affecting perceptions of risk or other social-cognitive variables such as efficacy beliefs. #climate #SciComm #Sustainability

We investigated the effects of communication strategies that highlight the threat of climatic tipping points. We were interested in how 'tipping point forewarnings' versus linear predictions impact laypeople's perceptions of risk related to climate change.

At the same time, psychological research has suggested that laypeople's mental models of climate change are relatively static, and may not take the risk of abrupt, nonlinear climate shifts into account.
