NHS staff have not hesitated to look after those we love throughout this pandemic.
Through their own fear, their own grief, their own exhaustion, they stepped up and they carried on.
They are the best of public service, the best of us. Thank you NHS.
#gotyourbackNHS
I am very sorry & angry to see NHS colleagues at Milton Keynes covid testing centre harassed & intimidated at their place of work. Our staff having to deal with increasing aggression & violence for simply doing their job. It’s abhorrent, unacceptable & we will not stand for it
We’ve unveiled our new staff benefits programme today - the start of a 3yr programme. Includes free parking for staff, increasing flex working
@FlexNHS
, increasing special leave, free tea & coffee & enhanced wellbeing services. Caring for
@MKHospital
while they care for patients
If you’re a new doc reading about what a ‘snowflake’ you are in the national press, take it from me. I don’t know any NHS snowflakes. I know bold, brave, brilliant people in every job, at every stage of their careers in the NHS who work incredibly hard in often v difficult circs.
The threat came as a response to media access. I have reported 2 police
I welcome debate & will listen to feedback on any issue. Threats like this aren’t debate. They are meant to frighten & control.
I do not tolerate abuse & violence against NHS staff & I will call it out 2/2
It is harder now than it has been in the NHS. Staff are fragile & when we say ‘the system is under pressure’, we mean ‘the people are under pressure’. But NHS staff please know your constant hard work is seen & appreciated. And thank you. Of course it’s not enough. But thank you.
Today I received a death threat as CEO
@MKHospital
.
I have never been concerned about giving media access to the hospital I am privileged to lead, because I am proud of my staff & the care we provide.
Today I worried. I guess that’s what these threats are designed to do. 1/2
At
@MKHospital
we are committed to continuing:
- free staff car parking (have done since last summer & it’s not changing)
- a dedicated staff health & wellbeing hub
- free tea & coffee
- staff room refurb programme
- flexible working
- investing in staff
#COVID19
The
#oxfordvaccine
is welcome news. We have more than 200 patients with covid-19 in our hospital, double the number of the first peak. Our staff
@MKHospital
are working phenomenally hard in incredibly difficult circumstances. I know thank you isn’t enough, but thank you
#TeamMKUH
Our staff are working flat out, doing their utmost to provide the best possible care to the thousands of people who walk through our doors every week. Please treat them with respect - don’t shout & swear at them. Don’t forget they are people too, showing up, doing their best
#NHS
We are shortly going to start free evening meals for staff working late
@MKHospital
& staff staying away from home. We already provide free drinks & free parking & are opening a new staff wellbeing centre. Caring for those who care has never been more important
#ClapForTheNHS
We’re acting to address the structural inequality we know exists in the NHS
@MKHospital
. As a CEO it’s my job to be a vocal & active ally - to lead, enable & empower change. To raise the voices of others & quiet my own. To stand in solidarity & to take action.
#BlackLivesMatter
I have been vaccinated & boosted, so have my loved ones, including my 12 year old twins. I’ve even trained as a vaccinator. Having seen the ravages of Covid, including losing my mum, I’d ask every single person eligible to get vaccinated & boosted. Vaccines save lives.
#NHS
The fortitude of staff across the NHS, their capacity to continue through the most devastating & difficult circumstances many of us have ever faced & now mobilising to deliver a vaccination programme at speed & scale. It is truly incredible. Thank you. To every single one of you
Announced today that
@MKHospital
has become one of the first hospitals in the UK to enable patients to view their consolidated healthcare records directly within the Health App on their iPhone
@NHSX
Worth remembering that whole systems are feeling the pressure, not only hospital & blue light services, so it’s a huge thank you & keep going to our hospital staff & staff in ambulance servs, community servs, mental health, primary care, social care, care homes, carers

It’s a huge privilege to celebrate my 10th anniversary as CEO of
@MKHospital
- it’s a real honour to lead this organisation, working alongside 5,000 of the best people in the NHS. Looking back on our collective achievements. I am very grateful to and proud of
#MKUH
We saw just under 400 patients in
@MKHospital
ED yesterday. The highest number ever. We’ve seen an unprecedented number of patients seeking emergency care every day over the last eight days. The ED team and teams across the whole hospital are working incredibly hard 1/2
Today we booked 700 vaccination appointments at the
@MKHospital
vaccine hub. we were booking 100 appointments an hour with two calls a minute. This call centre is staffed by our admin staff - many of whom volunteered to be part of the
#CovidVaccine
#TeamMKUH
effort, thank you!
We’ve had a 10% increase in inpatients with covid-19 in 24 hours
@MKHospital
- now at more than 220. Our ICU remains near to capacity. We are working tremendously hard through this very challenging period. Hospital services remain open - we are here if you need us.
#lockdown
We have admitted more than a ward’s worth of patients who are covid-19 positive in the last 24 hours.
It is very, very busy
@MKHospital
Thank you to staff working so very hard to keep all our patients safe and services running in challenging circumstances.

I’m proud to be part of a team that has given and delivered so much. A team of people I am proud to lead. A team who’ve cared for me & my family over the past decade.
I am grateful & so glad to be part of

Feeling excited & nervous as we contribute to the making of history tomorrow as a covid-19 vaccination centre.
Our staff have worked so hard in preparation for this & I want to say thank you to them.
As leaders we can do nothing without our teams - you are the best
@MKHospital
As we head into a significant week for the NHS, with the deadline for unvaccinated staff to have their first Covid vaccine on 3 Feb, I’d urge those undecided to talk to us - any of us - we are here, your colleagues, the people who work alongside you. We want to stay one team

Free meals for staff

I know the disappointment & sadness at cancelled plans. I know the hard, hard work you are doing day and night in at the hospital. It’s incredibly tough at the moment. We will get through it together. We will get through this together
Summer hols, childcare a bit patchy this week & so I’ve got the twins ‘helping’ me at work! Juggling is a challenge for everyone & not everyone has the luxury of doing what I’ve done today. Trying to make it easier
@MKHospital
for all our staff to juggle home & work
@FlexNHS
We’ve today published a policy
@MKHospital
to support staff experiencing domestic abuse.
This includes six weeks paid leave for employees who urgently need to leave their home due to domestic abuse plus other measures to provide support.

We could not love this more 💙

One thing we have in our direct control at the moment is the care we give to each other & the compassion with which we treat each other. Food & rest at work; support for those dealing with trauma; making difficult working lives as easy as possible. Those things matter

A massive thank you to staff
@MKHospital
- working so hard looking after our patients now and in preparing to care for patients safely if we see increasing numbers with
#COVID19
Just as important to look after
#TeamMKUH
so we can provide the care & services local people need
We are very busy
@MKHospital
particularly in ED, maternity, neonatal care & paediatrics & increasing numbers of patients with Covid-19. We are at the start of extremely challenging period. We will do everything we can to care for the people of MK & to care for our staff.
As the devastating situation in India continues, it is a frightening, lonely and incredibly distressing time for many NHS staff. To be far from loved ones in a situation like this is hard to bear. Our colleagues need us to wrap them in care and support.
#COVID19India
We have the highest number of patients with Covid-19
@MKHospital
(30 with 2 in ICU) the most for several months. If you have not yet been vaccinated, please get a jab. Hands, face, space, fresh air is still solid advice for daily life. Protect yourself & each other

Currently
@MKHospital
is very pressured but we are not yet at the point of needing to declare a critical incident. Patients with Covid have - doubled over the past week & staff sickness also continues to increase. We are preparing for this to get worse 1/2

#Easter2022
People & organisations are not the same after major incidents. We will all be watching
#COVID19
& unfolding events with different emotions. I don’t think we should underestimate that in the NHS. In major incidents there is usually an end, a chance for emotional recovery 1/
Today perhaps a day to say again that the NHS we love is one family. A diverse family, with members from across Europe & the globe, united by a common purpose to care.
To the 1.2 million people in our health service, whatever country you call home, you are our NHS

We’ve recently made some changes to the food our patients receive during their time in hospital, to improve the quality of our meals & reduce our food waste. We’ve seen our food waste drop from 18% to 2% with positive feedback from patients on our new menus 👍🏼

Happy Mother’s Day.

We broke the ground on the new radiotherapy centre
@MKHospital
today. This vital build will enable patients in Milton Keynes & surrounding areas to have radiotherapy treatment locally - currently they face up to a 100 mile round trip daily. Thank you to our MK & Oxford partners.
Thank you to every nurse who gives so much of themselves, their time, their love to a job that is often difficult beyond words. May we never underestimate what you do & may you always remember how valued & vital you are. Thank you will never be enough.

The humanity of NHS healthcare is brought home to me at Christmas. All we see and do here - the best and worst days of people’s lives, people who will one day be those we love, and who will one day be us.
My message to staff this Christmas

#NHS
Proud to have secured a good rating
@MKHospital
on core seviced and in our well led inspection by
@CareQualityComm
We have work to do to keep improving and I know
#TeamMKUH
are up to the challenge and the challenge of getting to outstanding.
I wrote this in Jan 2018. I could not have imagined what the last 18 months would bring. What our
#NHS
staff faced, continue to face, still there, despite it all, because of it all, for us all. The world is so different. Our purpose the same. I think this piece still holds true.
It has been extremely busy
@MKHospital
over the past week, with more patients than usual needing emergency care and significant pressure on our staff. As we go into the weekend, temperatures are forecast to rise up to 39C on Monday & Tuesday. We have taken the decision to 1/4
The balance of caring for our staff & caring for our patients is not in conflict or competition. Without doing the first we cannot do the second. I want our NHS staff to know we will care for them, we will do what it takes, because that’s what we will ask of them. /2
#COVID19
Huge congratulations to

My grateful thanks to the

We know the cost of childcare outstrips or equals earnings for some of our staff. We want to do more to support working parents (along with other groups of staff) with more accessible more affordable childcare on site. Challenge accepted!
Our work on staff benefits
@MKHospital
hasn’t stopped - we are looking at the next phase now. And on the list is affordable, accessible childcare. Got to be a way to do it, and we will find it!

To those becoming a mother today. To those caring for our mothers. To those spending precious time with their mothers in hospital. And to those for whom loss makes today sad and hard.
We will be with you today.
Christmas is upon us. A time of happiness and one of reflection, and in the NHS, a time that continues as every day in healthcare does – with joy and grief, fear and hope. We are privileged to hold all of human life, its fragility and strength, inside the walls of our hospital 1/
