@gardensinboots @cummins23 Infrastructure needs to just be more accessible for people. Love this cartoon, sums up our British attitude. If we make things more accessible it benefits everyone. We need a city & UK wide accessibility strategy.

‘Anticlimactic’. Says it all ☹️ Shameful that 2nd city can’t manage any public NYE celebrations. It’d increase night time ££ (same way as German market), a community event & raise city’s profile. Surely businesses/radio stations/attractions etc could come up with something?

There’s no mandate to ensure spaces are inclusive. Equality act is too subjective. I’ve been campaigning on this for years, nothing changes, it’s exhausting. There should be a bare minimum for inclusive play spaces as in the @scope #LetsPlayFair campaign. (1)

Acknowledging is not enough. I can’t see how anything will change, with the same people involved, who oversaw the mess as it was being created? We will continue to hear exactly the same platitudes ad nauseum, whilst the city continues to run downwards☹️
Council leader John Cotton acknowledges there are Birmingham-specific issues that the council is responsible for and should ‘put right’ The proposed budget has now passed its first hurdle and is set to be considered at a full council meeting later this month

Whoever tabled today’s cabinet meeting agenda @BhamCityCouncil clearly has no sense of irony or more worryingly any collective organisational self awareness of the impact/callousness of the decisions they’re making. I truly don’t know how we get out of this mess 😞 (2/2)

Item 6: we’re going to cut adult care services & close day centres. Next item, here’s another new shiny strategic plan about how we’re a carer friendly city. Seriously? It really is all just words isn’t it? (1)

I hope this new govt are up to the challenge, however soundbite politics like this & like @wesstreeting announcement today re: obesity aren’t filling me with hope. Please use this opportunity wisely 🤞(4/4)

Laying so much emphasis on employability as a measure of worth is problematic. Many people want to contribute through employment but for many it’s just not possible, and that’s OK, contributions to society in all of its’ forms need to be recognised & supported too (3)

Or the 000s of disabled people who would like to work but aren’t supported into employment? I look forward to the plan and hope it recognises the way this is a multi-layered, cross-system issue. (2)

Will this plan address the number of kinship carers who have to give up work to care for a loved one, saving the NHS & care system £Ms? Or the parents who find themselves homeschooling b/c the education system can’t meet the needs of their children? (1)
Millions of people have been denied the support they need to get into work and get on at work. 9.3 million working aged people economically inactive, with 2.8 million long term sick. But we have a plan to get Britain working again to get Britain growing again. 1/3

After telling you about 16-19 year olds with SEND who’ve had transport cut by @BhamCityCouncil - now, 4 year olds too. Four year olds starting reception are classed as pre-schoolers, and aren’t eligible for transport until their 5th birthday

TY for organising & giving a platform to the warrior #SEND parents who’re navigating this broken system https://t.co/cbX1fWv2OF. It shouldn’t be this way. Glad @CMcKinnellMP was there to take this back to govt, change needs to happen quickly, we have a completely lost generation
✨A big thank you to everyone who took part in our Woman’s Hour #SEND special live from the BBC Radio Theatre - and to all of you listening at home who also got in touch. We covered so much - but don't worry - the conversation will continue tomorrow! 🎧⬇️

Finally, the profile of (in)accessibility is being raised in the media. Let’s use this to create real change. Accessibility is hard, but it doesn’t have to be with the will, funding & a plan that works with disabled people & those who support them.
Disability campaigners have told this programme, there is not enough access or facilities for wheelchair users trying to navigate Paris to attend the Paralympics. The authorities in the French capital promised improvements to the city's transport network ahead of the games, but

Accessible transport and disabled passenger experience is in a desperate state. I’ve read the same version of this article every year for the last decade. It’s the same thing - DfT won’t do anything ORR says they can’t do anything DPTAC ??? https://t.co/b5GdScjpUN

If @10DowningStreet is committed to increasing accessibility, it has to be across all areas of daily life #NationalAccessibilityStrategy
@sophmorgTV Why can’t this not be done online, in the same way as it’s done for everyone else? So 😡. It’s all these daily inaccessibilities that are time consuming, frustrating & discriminatory for disabled people, their friends & family.
