Off to the @bbcproms in Bristol this evening! Because we actually want to get there in time for the concert, we will not be travelling by @CrossCountryUK trains.

Oh bugger, @nigetassell. A new Premier League season us upon us, and our dreams that Statman Dave might have taken up a new career as a trappist monk have, alas, gone unfulfilled.

The cat is still sulking post-Varese. A shame, as she missed the Thorvaldsdottir Cello Concerto @bbcproms which was just stunning.

Isabel, our cat, has turned her nose up at Varese at @bbcproms and headed outside. Can't please everyone, I guess.

Delighted to see that @tom_mckinney and @BBCRadio3 will be broadcasting from glorious Gloucestershire – birth county of Holst, VW, Parry, Howells, Gurney et al – on 18/19 Aug before slumming it for three days in darkest, culturelite Turnipshire (Somerset). #countyrivalry.

It's yet another @CrossCountryUK triumph. Eight-carriage train, but only four carriages in use. Lots of us having to stand from Cheltenham to Bristol.

Ah splendid. The reason why we had no announcement on the 18:33 @CrossCountryUK from Bristol TM was because the train manager who should have been making it was stuck elsewhere on another @CrossCountryUK train. running an hour late. I love this company.

It goes without saying that we have had no announcement to say why the @CrossCountryUK 18:33 from Bristol TM is running late. That would be way too helpful.

On the train, listening to the World's Most Boring Man describing his home TV set up in microscopic detail to a long-suffering fellow passenger. In this instance, I cannot blame @CrossCountryUK.

Hello @CrossCountryUK. Can I offer my son's services in your Carriage Counting Department? He's studying for A-Level maths, so should be able to help you tell the difference between 8 carriages, as you're supposed to be running, and 4 carriages, which is what you've given us.

Very much enjoyed @BBCRadio3 giving the LPO playing Sweet Caroline a run out this morning. Meanwhile, @CrossCountryUK are doing their bit to celebrate the Lionesses' victory by adding an extra 25 minutes to our train journey! Lovely gesture, bless 'em.

If Kirstie Allsopp ever had to catch @CrossCountryUK trains to get to and from work, she'd change her mind pretty quickly….
This working from home SHIT has to stop, it’s destroying mental health for millions of young people, and forcing many others to spend far more on housing just for the extra office space. It may suit middle class, middle aged, middle management, it does not suit most young people.

Right. Back from my hols. Time for a bit of @bbcproms on @BBCRadio3! And time for my annual attempt to try and appreciate the orchestral music of Walton.

I have horrible feeling that the train manager of the 18.33 @CrossCountryUK from Bristol TM isn't here because she/he's taken a @CrossCountryUK train to get to the station. They of all people should know better. .

Our @CrossCountryUK train is not moving from Bristol Temple Meads, because the train manager has gone missing. It just gets more risible by the day. .
