Happy Birthday to the force of nature Sir Simon Rattle 🎉
From 1980 to 1998 Sir Simon Rattle led the CBSO as principal conductor, artistic adviser, and as music director, and what a legacy he has left behind! 👏
🎈 What an incredible week it's been! We've welcomed our new Chief Conductor Kazuki Yamada and our new Chief Executive Emma Stenning, we've launched our new brand and our 23-24 Season, and we celebrated in style with Carmina Burana conducted by Kazuki!

Special doesn't even come close to describing tonight. The wonderful Sir Simon Rattle returned to a packed Symphony Hall and, together with our family of CBSO Choruses and guest artists, well and truly brought home the sheer joy of music. Thank you for an unforgettable night ❤️
Let there be music!
With the sonorous chord of E flat major that begins Beethoven’s Septet, we have the first live music heard at CBSO Centre since early March.
This week’s Covid-compliant rehearsals & performances by two small ensembles will be made available later this summer
After 9 months away, the CBSO Chorus returned to Symphony Hall last night to perform the music that would have been our Christmas concert. We had no audience, but to end this year singing together in our home concert hall is the best Christmas present we could have hoped for!
At our first concert of the 22-23 Season, we took a moment to reflect on recent historical events by performing the National Anthem.
Conducted by Kazuki Yamada.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐- "The lengthy ovation testified to the power of a performance that surely ranks among the absolute finest that the CBSO has given in years. The years ahead with Kazuki Yamada are going to be very exciting."
The CBSO family are deeply saddened to hear that the soprano Erin Wall has died at the cruelly young age of 44.
Erin sang many times with us, including the memorable 50th anniversary War Requiem from Coventry, and most recently she led the line in Mahler 8 in January.
RIP Erin
Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony is one of our ‘signature’ works - we poured our heart and soul into it and hope it showed! A delight to perform it again in Symphony Hall with Mirga, Lucy Crowe, Karen Cargill and the CBSO Chorus. Still a few tickets for Sunday if you missed it!
It's really starting to feel like our birthday now!
Thank you to everyone who made ‘Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand’ possible, from the staff at Symphony Hall, to our soloists, our friends from Baltimore Choral Arts Society and UOB, and everyone in team CBSO.
Over the centuries music has always brought people together and in that spirit, the CBSO dedicate the encore performance today of Melody, by the Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk, in solidarity and friendship, to the Ukrainian people.
