The eagle-eyed amongst you might have already spotted our three specially-liveried HSTs out and about recently!
They’re getting spick and span ready for a special celebration of the contribution of the fleet to the CrossCountry network.
NEW: Due to a lorry getting stuck under a bridge, services between Sheffield and Wakefield Westgate are being diverted in both ways. Journey times will be extended by around 20 minutes. No stations will be missed.

Goodbye my lover, goodbye my friend! 😭💔
A great big goodbye to
@ArrivaTW
, who has been our sister operator for the past 11 years. It's been a blast 🎆
From tomorrow,
@tfwrail
will operate ATW services.
Tomorrow, Birmingham New Street power signal box signals trains for the final time. It closes as part of the resignalling upgrade.
Almost all of our trains have been signalled by this box daily.
Check out what it looks like here:
Thank you New St PSB.
Trains are for essential journeys at the moment.
If you are on an essential journey, do a Bernie* by sitting in the window seats and by wearing a face covering throughout your journey, unless you're exempt.
*fantastic mittens optional
It's been a few years since our 'conscious uncoupling', but it was lovely to stay just good friends.
All the best to the fantastic
@VirginTrains
team on starting your new adventure tomorrow. We'll look forward to seeing you in your shiny new colours!
In bocca al lupo! 🚄 🇮
In light of the developments of Coronavirus, we have temporarily suspended our on-board catering service. All food has not gone to waste, and instead our Service Centres and local teams have supported with the donation of food to local foodbanks and charities.
We've got some tea-riffic news! From today, we will be able to offer hot drinks in your refillable containers, helping to reduce the number of paper cups we use onboard. So don't be a mug, do your bit for the environment and both you and your coffee cup can feel full of beans!
And so tonight we say 'goodnight' to
@EMTrains
for the final time and give a big CrossCountry welcome to
@EastMidRailway
. Thanks for everything over the years from the East Midlands Trains team - we're excited to see what the future holds for you as EMR and our shared network ^AG
..And that's that.
HSTs under CrossCountry have now completed their final public journey. Thanks for coming along for the ride with us.
(and thanks to signallers for the send off!)
Just one week until Christmas! We think you deserve another gift... How about a £300 Amazon voucher? Follow and RT to enter. Competition ends 1pm today - T&C’s apply:
Afternoon all! ^RM here, joining you for a random one-off afternoon of weekend jollity. Since the sky is greyer than a frigate full of woodlice, I think it's time to spread a little Sunshine... Let's talk trains (or boats, if you want, I'm not fussy).
Fancy brightening your train travel with a friendly purr? There are lots of famous cats living the purr-fect lives - read our article to meet Felix the Pest Control Manager in Huddersfield & Hector in Redruth!
🚄 We know you may have been looking forward to spotting a HST on our 0606 Edinburgh departure today, unfortunately this service is now running as a Voyager train. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.
2020 hasn't been great, but here's one thing you can look forward to now...
We've teamed up with
@RealtimeTrains
to provide you with real-time unit formations and allocations! Know how long your train is, and where to find your seat, before you board! 😎

✨ The first of our strengthened Turbostar units has officially entered service!
This is the first of six Turbostars being lengthened as part of our on-going commitment to enhance our fleet.
Last week we had a special guest travelling with us! Veteran, Mr Rex was travelling to attend D-Day celebrations when we surprised him with afternoon tea. We hope we managed to make his journey with us that little bit more special ✨
We may have more wheels (and certainly a better top speed...) than that little car, but with services up to Edinburgh and beyond, we have 'encroached' into
@ScotRail
's territory quite a lot ourselves! 😉
@AlexHynes
Personally, as a railway employee, my thoughts are with you and all
@ScotRail
employees at this sad, sad time but especially with the families and friends of the passenger and the train crew who lost their lives today. I'm sure all of XC share my sentiments too. ^DA
UPDATE: Our Voyager is looking a little worse for wear after having a battle with a tree at Kenilworth. Sorry if you're on board and we thank you for your patience.
Services between Birmingham - Reading will divert via Solihull for the rest of the day.
.
Tonight is the last shift for one of our Duty Control Managers!
After 27 years of dedicated service to the railway, 'Scary' as he's known is retiring and hanging up his decision making hat at 7am.
Thanks Andy for all your hard work, and we wish you all the best!
We’re excited to finally announce the launch of our ‘Pooches Pass’, allowing your dog to travel to the beautiful destinations across our network. Further information on how you can apply for your pet will be announced soon!
We’re delighted to announce that our final Turbostar has been lengthened for additional capacity. 💫 We’re proud of our team for coming together on this project. Keep a look out for these out and about on our network!
We’ve partnered up with the iconic 5-star

UPDATE: All lines have now re-opened so services can return to normal.
We have been advised that the train actually struck a bike/furniture and not a shopping trolley. On a positive note, at least we know there was no toilet roll harmed.
We had a bit of disruption earlier near Banbury, with a bull having a standoff with a Voyager.
Our Voyager held it's ground, and the bull eventually receded back into the field (with the help of the farmer).
Voyager 1 - Bull 0.
(Many thanks to
@networkrail
for the bull photo!)
NEW: Due to a train hitting a supermarket trolley on the track (yes, really) between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth, all lines are currently blocked.
Please see here for individual alterations:
^HA here signing on for my last ever twitter shift. I will miss all those who questioned why I was laughing at them. Farewell ^HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
#HAtersgonnaHAte
After 14 years, Jonny from Newcastle leaves us today for pastures new. From the Social Media Team and all of us at CrossCountry, we'd like to wish him the very best of luck 😊. Pass on your regards if you see him on your travels!
Alongside our industry colleagues, and especially our friends
@ScotRail
, we’ll be observing a minute’s silence today at 0943 to remember those who lost their lives last week at Stonehaven. Please join us.

LOST PROPERTY: A toy dinosaur has been on an adventure to Newcastle yesterday evening, but has now been separated from its owner. Does this belong to anybody out there in the twitterverse? Send us a DM if it belongs to you!
Following cancellations and disruption to their services, we have made arrangements to operate additional train services to support
@GWRHelp
.
Please see for a link to our timetable of additional and extended train services for tomorrow, Monday 10 May 2021
Hey
@grabbs22
, get some kip, jump on the first train home in the morning (on us of course), fetch the last of your stuff and get back to Birmingham and help
@AVFCOfficial
get back to the Premier League. Regards, the Villa supporting folk at XC (there's a fair few!)

#StormCiara
- Loads of teams out and about on the railway today. Train Crew, Station Staff, Control teams (hello!) and Network Rail all working together to keep trains moving today.
A massive thanks to all - here's a few of the
@networkrailwest
team near Stonehouses today!
Hello everyone, Peter here again wrapped up in my duvet for the morning shift. I don't intend on leaving my bed until the afternoon, so if anyone would like to deliver some breakfast to me that would be grand.
Evening everyone, Peter here for a night shift. No working from home on nights, was excited for an open KFC but they stopped accepting orders just as I arrived in Brum 😢
Working in an empty office is weird - if you could sum it up, it's like being in Friends but just you in it.
It’s a pleasure to announce that we have raised over £60,000 in partnership with Modern Railways for
@BrainTumourOrg
! The funds were raised through the retirement of our beloved HST fleet, and our contributions will allow life changing treatments and research to continue.
DISRUPTION: Due to sheep on the railway, services are disrupted between Birmingham New Street and Cheltenham Spa.
Services may be delayed or diverted.
Updates:- .

We’d like to thank Eddie for keeping our trains clean on
#RailwayDay
. During these difficult times we want to show those key workers still travelling that the railway is doing what it can to help.

✨ We’re pleased to announce another one of our Turbostar units has been strengthened, now providing an additional carriage to the service to support social distancing on-board. Your safety is our number one priority.
