Fong Lee was killed by a MPLS police officer in 2006. The officer was acquitted. Today, Fong’s mother gave an emotional speech in Hmong, encouraging the Hmong community stand w/ the Black community. On George Floyd: “This is something that hurts. We have to join hands with them.”

A semi-truck just ran over protesters in Minneapolis. I don't want to hear about looting. I do not want to hear about looting. Fuck you if your coverage is more on the looting than on what is burning this country down from the inside.

This morning, President Trump claimed Mayor Bowser "wouldn't let the D.C. Police get involved" last night during protests outside the White House but this USSS statement clearly says they were on the scene.

The late Alberto Alesina was a truly great economist. So when he told us that the U.S. doesn't have a European welfare state because of anti-Black racism, we should have listened. https://t.co/xpQZiLpu4k

Harvard economist Alberto Alesina, who died last week, found that ethnic divisions made the country less effective at providing public goods.

There is a strong flavor of Cold War nostalgia these days in the think-tanks community in Washington DC. When the world was simple and the US leadership uncontested. In human terms, irresistible. The pied piper of Hamelin....

For anybody interested by international relations, the moment is fascinating. All the elements of the debate about the role of China in the world are progressively deployed. Still in flux but close to cristallisation. Afterwards, it will be frozen for 20y. I bet on manicheism...

Minneapolis, people are exploiting our grief and destroying our city. The fires in area in Minneapolis where no protest took place gives us a clearer picture of that. We can’t let them. We must all come together to clean up our city and protect one another.

Gov. Walz and local authorities say outsiders had hijacked what had started as peaceful protests over the killing of George Floyd. St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter says: “I hear them say, 'We don't know these folks who are agitating.’” https://t.co/aKTXgxpWC8

Started recording these white guys who was completely out of place planning to "86 this building" it seemed like an organized burning. They tried to fight. We ran them away. After tonight I am convinced that the fires are largely organized arson #BlackLivesMatters #GeorgeFloyd

Now @GovTimWalz says while the violence started with racism in Minnesota, 80% of follow-on violence seekers are from the outside. They’re going to start releasing information about who these people are and who they are associated with.
