Today, we're holding Kia and Hyundai accountable and making sure they do right by the people they harmed. You can read more about our settlement here:

By failing to include industry-standard anti-theft technology in their vehicles, Hyundai and Kia unleashed a wave of auto thefts that cost Minnesotans their cars, their hard-earned money, and sometimes even their lives. In short, they put their profits ahead of people’s safety.

Maintaining public safety means holding people who commit crimes accountable, but it also means holding corporations accountable when their greed helps criminals harm the people of Minnesota.

The settlement also requires Kia and Hyundai to equip all future vehicles sold in the United States with industry-standard, engine immobilizer anti-theft technology, which they should have done in the first place.

This is huge news for Kia and Hyundai owners, so many of whom have struggled with repeated auto thefts or attempted thefts these past few years. It will also improve public safety, as we've frequently seen stolen Kias and Hyundais used in other crimes.

BREAKING: My office reached a nationwide settlement with Kia & Hyundai that requires them to install ignition cylinder protectors (pictured below) in their theft-prone vehicles for free. This will protect Kias & Hyundais from the kinds of viral thefts we've these past few years.

Trump’s comments about Somali immigrants, calling people “human garbage”, echo some of the darkest rhetoric in history. To our Somali friends and neighbors: Minnesota stands with you and we will not allow hate to take root here.

Trump’s rhetoric toward our Somali neighbors is unacceptable. My job are your Attorney General is to protect your rights and freedoms— that means no Minnesotan gets singled out or targeted for who they are.
