This project has been an absolute joy to work on. We use experimental and analytical approaches to identify the spatial and temporal consistency and drivers of beta cell subpopulations.
Our new preprint presents 3D light-sheet imaging of the intact islet, focusing on β-cell subpopulations that lead and coordinate islet Ca2+ oscillations. Great collaboration between Erli Jin, @JenniferKBriggs, and @BennyScience .

This story is written by my mother-in-law about Mathare Valley - a place extremely dear to my heart that is being destroyed by the Kenyan government. Reach out to her via this blog to more ways to help! What can we do with injustice? https://t.co/UuuVHKEyAq via @azizibeloved

Thank you David for the great summary!
Together with Brad Peercy, we summarise @BennyScience & @JenniferKBriggs recent eLife study, which shows that beta cell subpopulations AND electrical coupling both contribute to islet Ca2+ dynamics, helping reconcile the two previously opposing viewpoints!

Great to see an insight published on our new work! We use computational modeling, microscopy, and network theory to show that the functional network of the islet is the result of a complex interplay between gap junctions and intrinsic dynamics. @BennyScience @imarinelli89
Nice summary of our new work, led by @JenniferKBriggs written by @daveyboyhod & Bradford Peercy. Insulin Release: Synchronizing beta cells in the pancreas https://t.co/fnuhP6zt6W Full article described in this insight is here: https://t.co/6MVhCilFjm

Join me on Monday at 11:30 am 1747-P to discuss #islet dynamics and subpopulation in 3D and with pyruvate kinase activation. @BennyScience Results: Phase and network are spatially dependent and inconsistent The high phase cells (leader cells) are oriented by polarity

This is why we need to work transdisciplinary…
Happy 29th anniversary to the time someone published a peer-reviewed article where they re-discovered THE INTEGRAL and then had the nerve to name this breakthrough mathematical theorem after themselves It’s been cited over 500 times 🤦♂️ https://t.co/TBIfvNe4Sb

Awesome work by one of my mentors on decreasing systematic bias in hospitals through the help of AI!
David Albers, PhD, associate professor of #biomedical informatics at the @CUMedicalSchool, initiated the creation of an #AI powered tool to help identify hospital #patients at risk of deterioration. Learn more about the CONCERN tool here👇 https://t.co/hrLefscbeO
