WE FOUND IT! We trekked day and night through tiger-patrolled Sumatran rainforests accessible only under permit for this: Rafflesia hasseltii. Few people have ever seen this flower, and we watched it open by night. Magic.

I’m not a bot. I’m a chemist. I’m a human with a PhD trying to talk about science. My goal is simple, make people smarter, not angrier. Science, explained clearly. If you’re human too, drop a “Hi” so I know I’m not shouting into the botnet.

South Lanarkshire Council continue to reduce intensively managed grasslands with an intention to improve habitat for pollinators. They map pollinator sites to co-ordinate projects, identify gaps & have designed interpretation panels highlighting sites to the local community.

Recently I've been carrying out more complex statistical analyses & understanding those tests on a deeper level than before. Why the over night change? What does this have to do with a legendary #blues musician? Read on: https://t.co/4MFVRSlCuz

When it comes to the statistical analysis of data, I know my limits. Maths was never my strong point at school or university, and my approach has always been to keep analyses as simple and straight…

The Cathedral Church of St Machar in old Aberdeen = planting bulbs for next spring, diversity of plants, + shrubs around boundary walls (to provide winter shelter for pollinators). A community Bio-Blitz is yet another marvellous example of volunteer action to help nature.

Bees are typically creatures of open spaces / sunny habitats: a nocturnal lifestyle = a radical shift illustrating species' capability to adapt. Nighttime may be a dark & cold world to most, but it's a world of unexploited opportunities for a selected few https://t.co/I3wSbD65C1

Good to come across this sign in the grounds of Dundee's Ninewells Hospital. More and more hospital grounds are embracing the value of green spaces which work for people and nature and aid recovery. The nearby Community Garden is a personal favourite = https://t.co/MyZtGfCpGC

@britishbee According to data analysis by @JeffOllerton theres as many honey bee colonies in the Uk today as there was WW2. I trust his interpretation of the available statistics over BBKA social media manager. 2024 DEFRA statistics from annual hive count was 252,647 colonies.

Portuguese inspiration. Small pollinator-friendly actions are always worth taking. They help on the ground and encourage actions elsewhere. These street signs in Porto celebrating planting at the base of urban trees along with nearby wall-climbers are great urban ideas. #porto
