Rent a bee hive companies continue to deny that honey bees pose any threat to wild pollinators despite a substantial body of evidence being published. New analysis highlights threshold for negative impact even lower than previously thought.

All my best colonies are headed by feisty piping queens who murdered their sisters! The workers are very gentle and great to work with.

A new queen emerged today in our hive restaurant @Selfridges hive. The workers made lots of emergency queen cells after I thinned out the queen cells a week ago. They were determined to swarm but this queen had other thoughts and killed all her rival sister queens.

I’ve often noticed colonies with newly emerged virgin queens have more drones than they did prior to the queen emerging.

The next day I’m inspecting my mansion house colonies 4 miles away and I find a red marked drone on one of the combs! Colony had a virgin queen. Was he sniffing out sex? We know drones move freely between colonies but do we know over what distances?.

Intetesting story involving colour marked Honey Bee Drones. I recently took an observation hive into a school with a blue marked queen and a handful of red marked drones (male bees). Returned hive to apiary in east london and freed the queen and drones from the observation sect.

My favourite plant right now has to be Echium vulgare the Vipers Bugloss. This one large plant has today attracted 12 species of bee and 4 Lepidoptera including these beauties. One of these bees is only recorded from fewer than 10 sites nationally!
