Some of the comments on this are horrible! We've delayed taking sheets off today and put minimal covering on last night due to the strong winds. If a sheet goes flying whilst we are holding it. We go flying too. Sorry, but our safety comes before cricket being played.
A year ago today, I started out my career as a Groundswoman for
@YorkshireCCC
. What a mind-blowing year it's been 🤯 Here is a thread of some of my highlights 💙
All covered and ready for our first game of the season tomorrow
@YorkshireCCC
vs
@leicsccc
. Fingers crossed tonight's rain isn't as bad as we are expecting 🤞🏼
The first time, an umpire has seen a female marking out a Test Match pitch! I've tried to be out on the pitch as much as possible over the last few days, so hopefully, the first out of many more!

Yesterday marked the end of my first cricket season as a groundswoman. What an unbelievable 6 months it's been! A weekend off with a little bit of training before the end of season renovations start on Monday.

I may not have worked on the main pitch over the last few days, but I did a lot of work on the nets
@Edgbaston
. In my humble opinion, they looked amazing 🤩
Thanks for letting me loose over there
@barnstonworth
So it turns out, my first ever pitch isn't for the Diamonds but the England Women and their T20 Vs Pakistan! 🤯 The boss was getting me confused, nothing like a low-key game for my first pitch 🫣😂 Hopefully, it's a belter 🏏
This year, I'm planning on being more hands on with pitch prep stuff. So I'm starting off on the pitch for the
@North_Diamonds
and their first fixture at Headingley in less than 2 weeks time. First thing, getting the water content right 💎💙
I am quite impressed by my rolling skills today. A bonus that I didn't become a nervous wreck when asked to roll! 4 sets of 20 minutes rolling on the
@North_Diamonds
pitch for next week. It's coming along nicely 💎🏏
Despite all the wet weather, we've been out watering the square today! Most of the square has been covered for the last 5 weeks or so for preseason rolling. Which means it now needs a little drink!

Making the most of a quiet and sunny Headingley to get used to my least favourite piece of machinery! I used a roller a few times last year but always struggled to get used to it. Persistence is key with this one!

Almost a year later and I still can't believe I get to call this place my office! There isn't anywhere better to work when the Headingley sun is shining bright ☀️

Once again, another huge effort by the team to get the game back on. There was plenty of rain yesterday, but as always, we worked hard to get
@YorkshireCCC
back out there 💪🏼
The covers are coming off at Headingley with play is due to start at 4:45pm.
An outstanding effort from the grounds team today 🙌

I have loved being a part of Leicester Tigers Grounds team
@MattioliWoods
Welford Road for the day. I'll be back helping the team out for their game on Sunday too! A brilliant opportunity to learn something new and work at my favourite club!

It's
#GroundsWeek
this week and I wanted to make a huge shout out to this amazing team
@YorkshireCCC
. I couldn't ask to have landed with a better team. An endless amount of support and laughter. Thank you Team!
Scrolling through Twitter to see this 🥰 I love my job and I will always show this industry as the best place to work. Nowhere else I’d rather be

Working within a heavily male-dominated industry, Jasmine has been highlighting the opportunities for women and girls in Grounds Management. "If you can see it, you can be it" ✨

A huge honour to be included in a list of inspirational women in cricket 2023. So many other women in cricket doing amazing things on this list so it’s great to have my name amongst them. I hope to continue my hard work going into 2024
My Nan passed away at the end of January, and she would always make an Easter cake. So I've decided to take on the tradition and make it myself. I wonder how long it'll take before the team eats it all?

It was great to speak all things Women in Sports Turf and the Women's Ashes at
@SALTEX_show
yesterday. Quite possibly my worst nightmare, speaking in public but I'm glad I've done it and to help showcase Women in Grounds.
The 2023 season is over and we have some people to thank...
We will start off with the ground staff 🙌
What an amazing job they have done this year during a very wet season...thank you to Richard Robinson and his incredible team 💙

A frustrating day in the other kind of office today. However, I can't complain about coming away from the England Indoor Champs with a bronze medal though! I know I'm not where I'd like to be fitness wise but this shows I'm heading in the right direction 🥉💪
Yesterday marked the end of an era for me. And what a way to end my race walking career. Third in the Race Walking Association Champs and first in the Midlands Champs. I'd have liked to have ended it a lot quicker but I couldn't be prouder.
@YCCC33
It's so frustrating on our part. We do everything we can but the weather is against us a lot at the moment.
You are correct on that. We knew the wind was predicted, so we decided on sheets instead. They've been blowing about by the garage, a wise choice!
A cut and some spiking done on one of our out grounds today. A few areas are still a bit damp for proper spiking, so a little hand forking for those bits. I'm enjoying learning down at Headingley and putting things into practice here. Thanks for your help today
@PeterT_1978
What an unbelievable year I've had! To top it off, I got to spend it at
@MattioliWoods
Welford Road. Words can't describe the feeling of being on the pitch when players are coming out and the crowd cheering. An overwhelming but amazing day.
Here’s a little something I did with
@AllettMowers
for
#InternationalWomansDay
I hope that I can continue to learn and work hard in this industry to showcase what women can do. If I can inspire others along the way, even better. I couldn’t do it without my team
@YorkshireCCC
💙
Jasmine is a groundswoman at Yorkshire Cricket Club and recently took part in the All Female Grounds teams at both Edgbaston + Arsenal.She met Yorkshire’s Head Groundsman Richard Robinson during the covid times and hasn’t looked back
@JasmineNicholls
An honour to be a part of the team at Tigers but it’s also great to work with another female within Grounds industry. There aren’t many women but we are out there. Also, please do say hi if you see me on Sunday 👋🏻
@BethGibbs17_
Thanks Beth 💙 I'm not bothered about the haters. I just want more people to be aware of what we go through and why we do or don't do certain things. I aim to educate a few people on the world of grounds 😊
When I started my job, I didn’t know that an unspoken part would be to be a front person for women in grounds work. If I can be a part of a small change in this job or even inspire women to take up this amazing job. It’s a job well done. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.
It's been an incredibly tough 7 days or so for me. Sometimes it can be hard to keep going and put one foot in front of the other. When you do, it really does have it's benefits. I'm glad I managed to get out and do last nights training session.
After deciding to take a break from training to focus on work, slowly but surely, I’m getting back into it. Safe to say, my first track session back with
@leedswalk
was a success. 🏃🏼♀️💪🏻
I can't thank my team at Yorkshire enough. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be able to open up about my struggles. They're an amazing bunch of people. Also, thanks to
@RuthDacey
for helping me make this article a reality.
Finally, making and getting to work with some amazing people and friends. I couldn't have done any of the above without their support or help. They believe in me when I don't believe in myself. I could ask for a better team 💙 Let's see what the next 12 months brings 👊🏼
I thought cricket groundstaff were supposed to take it easier in the winter? Me? Nah! Where's the fun in that?! Slowly but surely building training back up to the level it was at a few months ago.
It's been a long time coming, but I can finally say that tomorrow is a race day! I have not had one of these for a while. I'm excited to finally get back out there 💪
One of the things I'm most proud of and one of my top achievements is being open and honest about how my mental health has changed since starting this new journey. It was tough to write but something that I needed to do
#MentalHealthMatters
Another year, another opportunity to be part of a ground breaking team. This time, an all women's grounds team for the Women's Super League Arsenal Vs Tottenham fixture
Today is 10 years since I made the move to Leeds for uni. How my life has changed since then! It was quite literally marked by helping
@PeterT_1978
mark out football pitches ready for
@ilkleytown
and
@BenRhyddingSC
To celebrate
#InternationalWomensDay
this Friday we will have a number of female members of staff taking over our instagram this week!
Starting off with
@JasmineNicholls
! Head over to our instagram now 👇
I honestly couldn't be prouder of the work that me and the team do at Headingley. I also couldn't be prouder of representing the
#YorkshireFamily
at the Women's T20 this weekend
Yorkshire's Jasmine Nicholls to be a part of Ashes history 💪
In a first for cricket, Jasmine, who is part of our Club's groundstaff at Headingley, will join an all-women team that will prepare the pitch for the first Vitality Women’s Ashes T20 at Edgbaston this Saturday.
A few days later, we had our test match at Headingley, and what a test match to be a part of! Not many people get to do two internationals within a few days of each other! I even got told it might have been the first time an umpire had seen a female marking out a Test Pitch!
August was the month of The Hundred. It is one of my favourite competitions and it meant a lot to have my mum come and watch a game and see me happy in my work 💜
I couldn't have gotten through yesterday without my cheer squad. Or those that have supported me throughout my Race Walking life. Especially everyone involved with
@leedswalk
, shout out to
@andidrake
for sticking by me for the last 11 years!

coinciding with
#NationalHotChocolateDay
? A perfect excuse to go for a Hot Chocolate and a chat. Never underestimate the power of asking someone if they’d like a brew. It doesn’t have to be everyday but making it a regular occurrence can change someone’s life
It's been a really tough few weeks, especially this weekend. On Friday, we said our final goodbye to my wonderful Nan. The hardest goodbye I've ever had to say 💔 Thanks for always being there Nan ❤️
@turfcareblog
Thank you! We are luckily with the staff and covers that we have. We’ve been covering for several weeks now which does help make preseason rolling easier and with getting ready for the first game in just over a week’s time!
Richard Robinson joins us as Head of Grounds alongside Jasmine Nicholls who joins the grounds team.
Andy Fogarty steps back from his role as Head Grounds Person after an incredible 26 years, but will continue as part of the team.

2023 was finished by having the opportunity to work at the ground of my childhood club. Leicester Tigers! It was an atmosphere that I will never forget 🐯

@Hodgyleeds
Thank you Hodgy! It's people like you who make this industry so welcoming and easy to come into. If it wasn't for people like you and the team at Headingley, I wouldn't be able to do the job. Your support and help mean a lot.
Little Jasmine, in her first ever race, could never have imagined all the things she could end up doing. Bonus points to whoever can spot me!
"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened"
@Hodgyleeds
Thank you Hodgy! With the help of the Yorkshire team and people such as yourself. I have plenty of people around me to learn from and to help me become the best groundsperson I can be.
@GarryC1204
@North_Diamonds
Yep! We’ve had 8 days of cricket in a row so during the heavy rain days the pitches have been covered up. After yesterday’s game we watered the majority of the square and nets area. With extra attention to our next playing pitches.
@sweeneytoddian
@YorkshireCCC
@leicsccc
Yes we do have mobile covers which we would normally use. For this game we’ve got coconut mats and two sheets covering it. We’ve gone with this as there’s a chance of high winds during the four days and we don’t want to risk mobiles going flying over Headingley.
@GordonRwhgordon
This was Yorkshire's on Thursday night. They didn't play until 3:40. Every ground in the country have been working their absolute hardest for several months already. Everyone's done our best but we can't help the weather. No play has nothing to do with groundstaff. We want play.
@a_y_harris
Thank you Anna! Both are very tough industries to work in but being part of the groundstaff team and in the cricket world has helped me in so many different ways
@YCCC33
Hopefully not 🤞🏼 the outfield has taken a battering with the rain recently. Unfortunately, that's where a lot of water runs to. We've verti-drained down there a lot but it needs some dry weather and sunshine on it to help it dry out
@Katie_Lev
@North_Diamonds
@YorkshireCCC
Thank you Katie! I'm so lucky to be in an environment where I do feel comfortable to be able to share my story. The groundsteam are in incredible bunch. I feel thankful to be a part of their team and the whole of Yorkshire and Northern Diamonds 💙
@YCCC33
@YorkshireCCC
@leicsccc
We might need more than a few members for those! I don’t live far from the ground and it’s raining here. The blotter has had plenty of use already so it’ll be ready for tomorrow.
