Painted Lady, high up on the south Dorset ridgeway this evening. Heavily faded, fresh in from central France no doubt.

After their epic journeys home, without swift bricks there’s no guaranteed nesting habitat for swifts anywhere in the UK & there never will be. It’s simple vital&urgent&why @Natures_Voice & all the nature NGOs, @ZacGoldsmith & US are asking @RishiSunak & @michaelgove to mandate

What is with the complete lack of desire for anything in green in gardens? I see it all the time in my job. How have we become so disconnected that we will only be happy when we are surrounded by concrete and artificial grass? Images 12 years apart - North Dorset.

THREE humpback off Pendennis Point in Falmouth this evening, the first expertly found by @LukeStoppard and photographed by @BenHancockSmit1 breaching here. 350+ people, largely students at the point within 90 mins of it being found 🤯

It’s hard to find any time for birding with a young family. I have to take what I’m given. Today I was given my first Cornish Chough near St Ives.

December 2023, DAFM has announced the first findings in Ireland of a non-European bark beetle Pseudips mexicanus known as the Monterey Pine Engraver. Found in forest locations in Co. Clare. Continuing imports of Brazilian Woodchip in Foynes, looks like a connection.

This represents an industrial scale, opportunistic plundering of a glorious and precious species that is on the brink of a comeback from near oblivion. Oceanic animals know no barriers, something we as global citizens must surely try to understand if there’s to be any hope @mcsuk

Possible flock of White Stork heading west over Litton Cheney. Very high up, not clear with the naked eye. Ran in to get binos and couldn’t relocate! Any other reports locally? @DorsetBirdClub

The post kids in bed peace was wildly shattered this evening when this Convolvulus Hawk-moth came into the house uninvited. My dear wife detests moths and this was a thing of nightmares for her!

The house building industry are major donors to the Tory party and today they got a bung from Sunak and Gove - who removed water pollution protections from new house building, and dumped the cost on the taxpayer instead. That’s how they roll.

There are over 1800 registered golf courses in the UK. Yet Donald #Trump is building another, on what one leading scientist describes as "the crown jewels of Scotland's natural heritage"...
