In a new @CancerMedicineJ study, we show that several factors linked to structural racism (particularly individual-level SES) explain racial inequities in the quality of #NSCLC care. @cpgYALE @cepollack @jamesbyu @JacquelyneGMD @DrLTDean @DrNunezSmith

The AACR is deeply concerned that the Administration’s recent actions are threatening NIH and its mission to accelerate progress for patients with cancer and other diseases that afflict millions of Americans. We urge Congress to restore stability to NIH: https://t.co/lK1chJyh1j

I ended by summarizing it all and focusing on my sweet, scared, tearful patient. As he cried I held his hand remembering that while life can be hard there is joy in some truly dark times. I’m thankful for my Granny who taught me how to deliver #GrannyLevelCare 🧵 5/5

I then addressed the partner and former partner (they have a great friendship). Using words that were specifically for them and their role in this transition. 🧵4/5

Seeing the pain in his daughters’ faces reminded me of the care I wish my Granny received during her final days. I used it as an opportunity to give 💡directly to them and pour into them strength, peace, and comfort in an unimaginable time. 🧵3/5

The hardest 1 of 3 was the patient w/his young adult daughters, along with current partner and former partner. He was Spanish speaking which I am not. I decided to have 3 GOC conversations in 1 room for 1 patient. 🧵 2/5

Yesterday I entered a new level of #GrannyLevelCare… I had a medical student with me and informed her that most of the teaching of the day would come from her observing my clinical care. Possibly the toughest day I’ve had in clinic thus far as I had 3 EOL conversations. 🧵1/5

Today’s #BlackHistoryMonth tribute is to @DrRobWinn someone who also shares the #716 area code but more importantly has touched the lives of so many dreamers! You have inspired, encouraged, and given us the tools to create our legacy.

This Black History Month, let's remember the trailblazers like Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first Black woman physician in the US, who dared to dream and paved the way for so many. We celebrate all the Black women physicians, past and present. #BlackHistoryMonth #ABWP

Today’s #BlackHistoryMonth is honoring Dr. Willie Underwood. A man who has mentored me for now 16 years. A man who taught me what mentorship is. Also, an incredible surgeon (urologist), father, husband, and friend!

It’s #BlackHistoryMonth and I know some amazing people that have certainly contributed to Black History! I will start this month by acknowledging @PierceLoriJ who many know I deeply respect. One who stood on the stage and urged @ASCO and all to consider equity for all. #Legacy

I had the honor of giving the keynote address last week at #ASCOGI25 on the importance of inclusion and equity in GI Onc. Cancer care and research are not political and transcend politics. The work remains the same. @ASCO @YaleCancer
