Have you heard of concerns expressed by HS2 about the obligations & responsibilities it has to comply with environmental laws & the protection of rare species? If you have, then you might like to know about @NaturalEnglandโs response to the claims made. https://t.co/kG6ugGz0wU

There has been inaccurate coverage about Natural Englandโs involvement in the development of HS2's bat tunnel. Natural England has not required HS2 Ltd to build the reported structure, or any other...

Bulldozers could soon tear through this area of natural beauty to make way for the Norwich Western Link road. We need more of this biodiversity, not less.

Canโt the bat colony be relocated? Won't they adapt & move on? ๐ค Barbastelles need diverse mature woodlands in high quality landscapes with access to extensive, well-connected foraging grounds. They also return each year to the same woodland to breed ๐ฆ Adi Ciurea ๐ธ

Golden Orioles. A short thread. The recent arrivals in the UK are extraordinarily early. Re-reading the Mason/Allsop monograph, when we had breeding GolOrs in England in small nos, avg mean arrival dates for 1st males not until mid-May. 1st females avg date June 1st. Why? 1/5

Government has a golden opportunity today make good on its promise to ban peat in products like compost๐ When in good condition peat is a natural ally against climate change & nature loss - it stores carbon, curbs flooding & supports wildlife๐ Let's keep peat in #BogsNotBags
The Government promised to ban peat products in horticulture "as soon as Parliamentary time allows". Well, today there's a Private Members Bill in Parliament to do just that. Will @SteveBarclay back the bill? https://t.co/7o2ToaeoV3

I was delighted to catch up with two great local birds over the past few days: arctic tern at Whitlingham yesterday and ring ouzel near Arminghall this afternoon (at the third attempt!). Thanks to @YareValleyJus for both initial finds and to others for the helpful updates.

I thought a resighting of the red-throated diver at RSPB Buckenham would be my bird of the day, but a wheatear near Postwick proved me wrong and provided an ace zero carbon year tick. Also a newly emerged hairy dragonfly by Hassingham Beck was my first of the year.

Highlights of an enjoyable afternoon cycle ride in the Yare Valley were finally clapping eyes on the somewhat incongruous ruddy shelduck, with pinkfeet at Cantley Marsh, and two grey partridge still skulking near Postwick.
