US Asian immigrants are, on average, hyper-selected. They're more highly educated than their non-migrant counterparts + more highly educated than the general US population. This explains the high SES of some #AsianAmericans, and does not negate #WhitePrivilege.

US Chinese immigrants are #hyperselected. They're 12x as likely to have a BA compared to their non-migrant counterparts in China & 2x as likely as the US mean. Their hyper-selectivity drives stereotypes about the presumed competence of US Chinese, which extends to Asian Americans.
This figure derived from @JLeeSoc's work is so important for understanding stereotypes of immigrants and immigrant selectivity. Only 4% of people in China have a B.A. degree - as compared to 17% of people in Mexico.
