Congrats to @zeng_chenjie & team in my @NHGRI lab & @HopkinsMedicine for this paper using @AllofUsResearch, showing that most of the ~10 million CFTR heterozygotes in the US are not at risk for CF-related disease. It also includes a PheWAS for genetically-defined CF.

Most CFTR heterozygotes in this genetic association study showed no increased risk of cystic fibrosis-related diseases compared to noncarriers. https://t.co/N7iJHuFxXd

Atul was brilliant multitalented scientist, leader, and friend. I struggle to recall a mental image of him in which we wasn’t smiling. He would always respond to an email or call, and give of that infectious positivity and creativity - even until the end. I will miss him.

Between alarms and sheltering, I learned last night that my postdoc mentor, Professor Atul Butte @atulbutte, has passed away, and he is only 55 years old. This is devastating news 💔. Atul was a giant in so many ways. He was a visionary leader in translational bioinformatics

Tam Tran's PheTK paper as a faster, easier way to do PheWAS in biobanks is out: https://t.co/0xVHoq7CMH. It supports phecodeX and phecode 1.2. See code that demonstrates use in a shared All of Us workspace in the researcher workbench:

Lowering salt (one teaspoon) in the diet among middle-aged and older adults was as good an effect for reducing BP as a first-line anti-hypertensive drug, independent of severity of HTN or meds, in ~75% of people, from a randomized trial https://t.co/hIsY3rVXPa @JAMA_current

I (personally) and @genome_gov (more broadly) are highly enthusiastic of the NIH @AllofUsResearch Program. The program’s plans to enroll and study 1 million or more participants offers tremendously exciting opportunities for genomic medicine and precision health research. 🧵:
