Don't be fooled by the slick renderings. Eric Adams sold out cyclists and bus riders by turning the planning process over to 5th Ave luxury retailers who changed the design to please their customers: Bike lane -> gone 2 bus lanes -> 1 bus lane 1 vehicle lane -> 2 vehicle lanes
Right now, 70% of the people on Fifth Avenue are pedestrians but they can only use less than HALF of the space! That's going to change under the plan we rolled out to completely transform Fifth Avenue into a WORLD-CLASS pedestrian-centered boulevard. Learn more:

For a glimpse into the possibilities of a car-free/car-lite East River waterfront, walk along it at rush hour. It’s ironically most peaceful when traffic is at its greatest—cars can’t make much road noise when they’re crawling along at 5 mph.
After All That, the New East River Park Is...Fucking Awesome @jawnita goes long on NYC's best new resiliency project https://t.co/rWCVWCIHEc

How much do we think the city spends on police pensions for spurious "on the job" injuries?
Chief of Department John Chell, a polarizing figure heralded for his dedication but often criticized for aggressive tactics, is closing out a 31-year career as the Adams administration winds down. https://t.co/EBKANKtJKb

DOT is usually reactive when it should be proactive—but on Canal Street, it's not even reactive. Just endless hand-waving studies and zero real improvements.
Mayor Adams should know how dangerous the area at Canal St. at the base of the Manhattan Bridge: He rallied there as a NY State Senator in 2007 after a cyclist was killed by a driver.

We fight so hard to protect the places we could never build today. This 4-unit, 1800s mixed-use building sits on a 3,900sf lot (45 units/acre). Modern zoning would require a dozen "exterior" parking spaces & a 20,000sf minimum lot size to build today. 📍 Marblehead, MA

Turning the city’s many disused churches into housing is architecturally tricky — and, when it works, spectacular.

The right approach to Bedford Ave would've been to use boulders and planters to create drop-off spots with good visibility for cyclists and kids to see each other. It's sad to see it removed in a knee-jerk reaction instead.
Hot Damn! @NYC_DOT dropped some righteous blocks of stone & planters a plenty to keep the heathen from triple-parking and doing da wrong thing on 31st Ave! @StreetsblogNYC @JohnSurico @BobaCyclist @34_ave @bfurnas

Not to be a downer, but isn't this just an inferior version of the protected intersection, using more plastic than concrete? If suburban Maryland can build the real deal, why can't NYC?
Safer intersections save lives. Over half of traffic deaths occur at intersections. We're piloting a new design at a limited number of high-crash intersections to slow turning vehicles & improve visibility for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. More: https://t.co/0bnwDcPIJ9
