This is my draft treatment for the movie And I'd like to remind everyone that all of this *actually happened*, including and especially that scene in London with Thomas Jefferson and the Barbary Ambassador

@johnkonrad The navy should get the guy who made master and commander to make a movie about the Barbary wars; it would be a massive hit

The obvious counter argument is that if your political movement has a paramilitary wing that will use violence to get what it wants, then that is also undermining democracy

Chris Minns' radical move post-Bondi to ban protests—claiming peaceful pro-Palestine rallies "sow division, hatred & unleash violence"—is aptly rebuked by NSW Council for Civil Liberties: "The Premier is undermining the legitimacy of the democracy that put him in power." #auspol

The conditions of the deal was that Hamas could disarm and handover the hostages, and this territory would be held by Israel if Hamas didn’t keep their side of the deal to disarm And guess what Hamas decided to do

🚨 Nothing to see here. Just Israel building 13 military outposts in and around the 58% of Gaza they've stolen. But yeah, it was about the hostages, right?

And when the local pro Palestine backers argue “what’s the difference between from the river to the sea when a pro Palestine person says it vs when a Zionist says it” well the difference is that there’s no Zionist militia in Australia blowing shit up

Within this definition, the pro Palestine movement has shown that it has a violent wing that is willing and able to deliver on threats on Australian targets

Seems like the critical difference between mean words and hate speech is whether your side of the conflict has a paramilitary wing who can credibly back up those threats with actual violence

“Violence will continue until there is peace in Gaza” can be a normative argument but it can also be a threat And if my military wing gets a veto on whether that peace deal is accepted, then it can be a threat of violence as long as I like

And movements can act as intermediaries for the violent wing. Sinn Fein can act as the agent delivering implicit threats while the IRA can act on them, and they don’t need to be in explicit communication to perform those roles

Hate speech is an explicit or implicit threat of violence combined with the ability to act on it Nobody cares if the local year 6 chess club issues a fatwa. They care if the ayatollah issues a fatwa.

With evidence now clearly indicating the Bondi massacre was an IS atrocity, the rhetoric of Frydenberg, Howard, @sussanley, Littleproud, Pauline, Barnaby etc is misdirected. IS is an apostate entity. IS is indifferent to religion. IS kills Muslims too.

Germans were accused of “refusing to assimilate” Sound familiar? In the mid-1800s, Anglo-Americans openly complained that Germans: Spoke German in public. Ran German-only schools and churches. Printed German newspapers. “Lived among themselves” Editorials at the time warned

The hippies, socialists, race war fans and nouveau moralisers thought that the old elite class was incompetent and could be replaced easily, and old allies could be dumped for other ones Perhaps that job required a little more attention to detail than they expected

Questions like this guide decisions about which countries are in our long term interests. You can’t be allied with movements who will stab you in the back whenever they like; and the pro Palestine movement has made a habit out of doing that everywhere and always

This was a highly foreseeable event, and even self interested elites should have known that this would make them look incompetent if they’re on the wrong side of that cause when it happens

Elites are meant to guide big decisions where there is a lot of conflicting and complex information to sift through Australian elites should have figured out that a pro Palestine jihadist terrorist attack was highly likely and tried to push the crowd away from that movement
