Seattle has seen a 90% rise in traffic deaths over the past decade—spiking in 2020, the year SPD largely stopped enforcing traffic laws. Citations dropped from 27,953 in 2019 to just 5,487 in 2024 (-80%). Drivers know there’s no enforcement—and drive like it. It’s time to

Who could have guessed: the No Tax on Tips law is a mess. The smart approach would have been a simple tax cut for people in the lowest brackets, no matter where their income comes from. Instead we now have loopholes, compliance headaches, and warped incentives.

The Trump administration wants to exclude earnings from “pornographic activity” from a new tax break for tips. Will the I.R.S. know it when it sees it?

Hey @SoundTransit @seattledot This is was approved in 2016, the same year Seattleites voted for ST3. 9 years later, Montréal has now a fully automated, driverless 31-mile network with 19 stations. Seattle is still discussing the Ballard and West Seattle extensions and
Congrats to Montreal, with its REM Deux Montagnes (Two Mountains) Branch opening today! Adding 20.5 miles (33 km) via the ROW of the former electrified commuter rail line of the same name under CN, AMT & exo, the fully-automated REM light metro now serves an additions 14 stations

Some of the Comments are entertaining. This one is the exact mentality that got San Francisco (my previous city) the most expensive housing market in the country, at times worse than Manhattan.

Honestly this is bs: "Seattle bill allowing housing near Sodo stadiums is invalidated" "Board members also concluded the city hadn’t met its requirement for allowing public participation, had failed to give the state’s commerce department sufficient notice of proposed changes

The bill was pushed by Council President Sara Nelson, who waded into a heated fight to get it passed. Now that she is leaving office, the future of the bill is unclear.

I didn’t vote for Katie Wilson, but I’m wishing her well and I’m rooting for her to succeed. Some parts of her platform, especially on transportation, are exciting. I really hope she revisits what would have been Harrell’s biggest long-term mistake: the split, disjointed CID
seattletimes.com
Wilson took a 1,976-vote lead over Bruce Harrell. With a maximum of 1,320 ballots remaining, it is mathematically impossible for Harrell to catch up.

I really dislike that we rarely get full election results on election night. It fuels doubt about legitimacy for no good reason. Mail-in voting is great, but other countries require ballots to be postmarked days in advance so they’re ready to count on time. That seems fair.
seattletimes.com
Though left-wing candidates in Seattle usually gain ground in late-counted ballots, that trend often does not show up until the Thursday after the election.

This was interesting: ChatGPT refuses to give details about US election or voting procedures. After I insisted and asked Why a couple of times, it said it's to avoid "misinformation" and "accidental inaccuracies".

@SeattlePD @bruceharrell Why do none of our local electeds take action or even discuss this issue? What will it take for "people not to think that police won't stop them for speeding" or other traffic infractions? @JoyForSeattle @Alexis4Seattle @Sara4Council

When will Traffic Enforcement in Seattle resume? @SeattlePD @bruceharrell "Since 2023, however, something new has topped the (public-safety concerns) list: traffic safety." “People don’t think police will stop them for speeding anymore,” she said, adding that reduced traffic

Seattle University's annual survey on public safety, initiated in 2015, shows how local perceptions of crime, safety and policing have shifted.

This 5-way intersection in West Seattle is the perfect example (47.57203311223584, -122.35996438113078, where SW Spokane St meets W Margin Way SW and Delridge Way SW). The red-light cycles last a really long time here.

Roundabouts are such a win-win. There are some intersections in Seattle that imho are desperately calling for one. https://t.co/jQJne4Aw9a
nytimes.com
Despite its small stature, the city of Keene, has become an example of the safety and climate benefits of swapping traffic lights for roundabouts.

Seattle's Housing Zoning Policy.
@CalvinLow5 “Along transit corridors” generally translates to “used as human shields along wide, busy, polluted car sewers where they get crash injuries and asthma.”

Adjusted for inflation, Madrid built 35 miles of metro between 1995–1999 for about the same cost as a SINGLE mile of New York’s Second Avenue Subway (Phase 1). Imagine if every transit dollar here bought us 35 times more transit?

Is there a way to know how many citations the Do-not-block-the-intersection cameras on Stewart St @ Denny Way in Seattle issue? Standing here for (a very late) @FixTheL8 Bus 8 and literally every minute (even an SDOT car...!)

Today while crossing a crosswalk, a bike passed so close I felt the air move. Cars are unquestionably the biggest danger on our roads. But cyclists running red lights and not yielding to pedestrians is terrible PR to support more infrastructure that is not for cars. Even as a

Last week I hired someone on @Taskrabbit for yard work. He accidentally cut one of my landscape lights - $88.24 to replace. I filed a claim, and TaskRabbit is asking for a professional repair quote and even a response from my home insurance - for something that’s clearly under
