I’ve never met a gay person who regretted coming out – including myself. Life at last begins to make sense, when you are open and honest. Today is the 30th anniversary of the BBC radio discussion when I publically said I was gay. So I’m celebrating!
20 years ago, I arrived New Zealand to begin filming "The Lord of the Rings." I joined the cast on January 10, 2000. During that time, I kept a journal, which today would be called a blog Perhaps you'll enjoy reading about those heady times:

sixteen years ago, 19 December 2001, a film made in New Zealand was released in cinemas worldwide. Nobody knew if it would be a hit or a flop. "The Fellowship of the Ring" went on to reach millions of fans and remains one of the most beloved pictures of the 21st century.
On September 4th 1961, I made my first entrance as a professional actor – on the stage of the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry UK. I was part of its resident company of actors. 60 years on, here I am in Windsor, one of the company at the Theatre Royal. So nothing much has changed.
At 17,
@Jake_Daniels11
represents a generation that rejects old-fashioned homophobia in football and elsewhere: those who haven’t yet grown up as he has. He sets an example. No wonder so many of us, gay and everyone else, admire & treasure him as a hero. What a goal he's scored!
It's hard to believe it’s been 20 years, but it's terribly exciting to see this the way it was meant to be seen: on the big screen, beginning April 13 in US. For best seats in your neighborhood, click here:
I’m celebrating my 80th birthday next year by touring a new solo show to UK theatres I know well and a few that I don’t. I open at my local arts centre in January and end up by August in Orkney.

I hadn’t long been up before I set off for yesterday’s matinee of King Lear. At the underground station I galloped up 45 steps to catch the train above. Once on it, I skipped along the carriage and my left leg gave way. A strained calf muscle was diagnosed ...

puts aside any negative reaction to her coming-out, at a time when she deserves praise and empathy for taking control of her life in such a public way.
Once I slide into this first frock and spy Mother Goose’s ample figure in the mirror, I’m ready to go on her journey through the Show. Tour of UK & Ireland begins next week.

1/4 As part of an extended podcast recently, I suggested that if closeted people were instead open about their sexuality they wouldn’t abuse others. That, of course, is wrong.
King Lear again: 100 performances at Duke of York’s in London where I made my West End debut 1964. It’s a small theatre but we shall make it even more intimate by removing half the stalls seats. First performance is 11th July.
Section 28 doesn’t exist in UK any more. Yet beyond this land, the stupid notion that sexuality can be “promoted” is enshrined in law elsewhere. So, the fight against ignorance and prejudice has to continue. Happy Pride!

Dying people ‘should have the choice to die at home, on their own terms.’

Russell T Davies must be the most imaginative of writers for television. His latest series reveals that he cares for the audience as much as he loves his characters. He’ll make you sad but lift your heart.

I love showing Molly Lord of the Rings things she somehow hasn’t seen before...I just got to show her Eomer’s Bootcamp for the first time and she’s so happy
11 March marks the 61st anniversary of my decision to attempt a career as an actor, and I've not looked back since. I was in an amateur production of Shakespeare's "Henry IV" at Cambridge Arts Theatre. On stage with me were others who would pursue successful theatre careers

I feel lucky to be working again, thanks to Bill Kenwright's inspiring optimism and Sean Mathias's invitation to re-examine Hamlet, 50 years on from my first go. So now we will meet again. Don't know when but do know where – Theatre Royal Windsor!
20 years ago this month, as I began filming X-MEN, I started posting regular updates to my website. Before the term "blog" was around, I called it a journal, but in effect it's among the earliest blogs anywhere on the web. Enjoy!
My neighbour pulled this tree a year ago and just left it on the sidewalk. It’s never been removed. For months I’ve seen all manner of grown ass adults walk up to the tree, see the tree, and turn around.

I fell in with Andy Warhol when I was on Broadway in “Amadeus”. He liked to snap people when he first met them, so this was probably taken when I visited his Factory in Union Square: 1981
As a participant in the outcome, it’s fascinating to read the daring off-screen preparations by Sir Peter and the intrepid producers of ‘Lord of the Rings’, 20 years ago.
4/4 When it comes to abuse by people in positions of power, the correct response is clear. The accusers must be heard and the accused given the opportunity to clear their names. If the accusations prove credible, the abuser’s access to power should be removed.
I'm not a politician, so I was surprised some weeks ago to receive a message that appeared to come from the Ukrainian Embassy in London, inviting me to participate in “a private discussion with President Zelensky.” Click image for more:
