Too little, too late. The efforts to keep Fire Engine 7 and the 12 firefighters who work there have apparently failed. The crew and their engine are leaving the East Side and will be serving the University/Vandalia area from now on.
Hours after 2 St. Paul City Council members said they opposed moving a fire engine from Dayton’s Bluff to another part of the city, Mayor Melvin Carter III announced the relocation will happen. But he stressed new emergency medical resources will be added.

New interim Fire Chief for the @StPaulFireDept :
Butch Inks, a retired Air Force veteran with 20 years of experience in the St. Paul Fire Department, will assume the department’s top role on Saturday.

Coming through the ranks should be mandatory for a Fire Chief. We had a Fire Chief with no street experience for the last 10 years, it does not work. Congrats to Chief Inks!! Local 21 can’t wait to get to work and move this department forward.
