Thought-provoking piece by Clare Hanna. There's a reason why there's as much orange on our flag as there is green. Inspired by the French Revolution (liberty, equality, fraternity), it is inclusive of our identities - catholic, protestant, dissenter, Gaeilge agus Béarla

The ‘no confidence’ motion falls flat. It was useful to facilitate unionism sending a clear message to the pan-nationalist front that we won’t be dictated to by them. So to the mover of the failed motion @GerryCarrollPBP we say: ‘victory to the Unionist resistance’ 🇬🇧

I’ll assume the tweet by Gerry Carroll supporting Hamas terrorism on October 7th was brought up, and this broad deliberately chose not to include that context in her tweet.

What this effectively means is that pressure will be put on “Catholic” schools to shun him. Givan will then end up only attending “Protestant” schools and will then be accused of favouritism and sectarianism.

This is fundamentally what Irish nationalism is now trying to do. They want to use majoritarianism to put their boot on your neck, so to speak. Power-sharing and words like “equality” are misnomers; they want to dominate you socially, culturally, and politically.

Paul Givan has shamed his office - so the SDLP are signatories to today's no-confidence motion. But we know the DUP will block censure- so the SDLP Opposition is also pushing for reform of our broken rules so that rule-breaking ministers can't forever avoid sanction.

Nationalists will completely ignore Michael D. Higgins refusing to attend a church service in 2021 for the NI centenary, but it's a disgrace if a Unionist politician doesn't attend the inauguration of the Irish President. Double standards, as usual.

One persistent myth of the Great War is that "the establishment" sacrificed only the working classes, yet junior officers (mostly from public schools) suffered a death rate of around 20%—nearly double the 11% rate among ordinary soldiers. The "elites" got hammered too.
