Reminds me of , which @ragamouf shared in Carpentries slack last week. TLDR; when asked to evaluate learning and teaching, students often rate "satisfaction" (see also attribute substitution); satisfaction and learning are often at odds with each other!.

There's a lot of privilege to be teaching subjects that are unlikely to expose you to that level of public critique. And one could legitimately also discuss the socio-political context for why certain version control tools are adopted over others beyond just technical merits!.

"Don't bring politics into teaching". I agree with not bringing up who I vote for when I'm teaching a class on version control with git. Some folks use it to suspend public health faculty who discuss how some policy decisions affect health outcomes.
